I have never built a computer before so i am very lost when it comes to picking parts. I want to build a really good gaming pc but will also be used for light editing, mainly rendering. My budget is around $800 and i would definitely prefer an intel cpu but i am up for anything.

Solution
For $800 with a good GPU for gaming you're in the i5 and AMD FX-8320 territory--but the i5 only has 4 cores and no hyper-threading so I'd definitely get the FX-8320, since that CPU has a whopping 8 cores and is outstanding at rendering, editing, and performs on the level of an i5 when gaming.

Intel system (better upgrade path, slower right now):
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($192.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: ASRock H87M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($79.99 @ Micro Center)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($76.99 @ Micro Center)...

Solution
What kind of rendering? 3D rendering, like VRay or Cycles?

Here's a slightly cheaper optical drive:
