Alrighty everyone, I have been searching through forums and decided to just make my own because I keep getting somewhat different answers.
So here is what I want, I plan on playing star citizen and other new games at full resolution HD. My main games are Civ 5, DCUO and Skyrim right now, and I run duel monitor setup to watch TV on the other monitor while I game but I don’t run multiple heavy programs simultaneously; just internet on one monitor and a game on the other OR internet on one and word on the other.
My computer right now is
I7 2600 CPU @ 3.4 GHz
8 GBs of RAM (not sure the speed, but I’m thinking 1333 mgz)
Asus micro ATX Motherboard
256 SSD Samsung
1 TB Seagate HD
GeForce GTX 550 Ti
750 Watt PS
Blu-Ray disc Drive
Windows 7
Peripherals
I use a BENQ senseye 3 LED monitor with just a terrible cheap side monitor.
Corsair Vengeance Keyboard
Logitech M500 Mouse
Sony Pulse Headset
Microsoft HD webcam
Now here is my question, I will be buying a new computer for my dad, but really for myself and giving him the computer described above. Except I will take what I need, like the SSD and get him some new ones.
Now this is what I have been thinking
*I7 4770K CPU
16 GBs of Ram @ 1600Mz
Asus Z87-A Motherboard
Same Drives as above, unless someone has a better reason for buying new SSD and HD
*GeForce GTX 770 (maybe SLI in the future if need be)
950 Watt PS (that is currently in some old computer for some reason, that we use as spare parts)
Blu-Ray Disc Drive
I would like to keep Windows 7
* My initial impression was to go for the Haswell, but after reading conflicting reviews online I am leaning towards the I7 3930 or I7 4930 because of the 8 core, but I hear these 8 core are slower per core than the 4770K. I know I won’t see a difference now, but seeing as Star Citizen and the Crisis 3 engine implements better use of multi-core and hyper threading.
So the question is: is it ‘future proof’ or as much as possible, to get the I7 4930K or will the difference be negligible to the I7 4770K because of the faster core speed.
* Now as for the graphics card, I have been debating on the GeForce 770 right now, and in the future running another in SLI or forking up more for say a Titan. I would like to save as much as possible, but get the most for my money without sacrificing any performance.
Anything that you can add or help me with would be much appreciated; I have been going a bit crazy trying to figure this out so any answers would be amazing! Also any other insights into related tech (peripherals or whatever) is appreciated!
