Hello evening everyone.

I'm thinking about adding a new harddisk to my old(2015) desktop pc but I'm hesitant in finding which one should be the best option here.

the following options are:

Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200rpm 256MB SATA III

Western Digital Blue 2TB 7200rpm 256MB SATA III

Seagate Barracuda 4TB 5400rpm 256MB SATA III

PC:

CPU: AMD A10-6700 Richland 32nm Technology
RAM: 8,00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-12-28)
Motherboard: Hewlett-Packard 2B17 (P0)
GPU: 2048MB ATI AMD Radeon R7 240
HDD:931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EZEX-60M2NA0 (SATA)

Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,

Does my pc/motherboard supports it? I'm not sure if it does, what do you think?

and they are a bit expensive nowadays though compared to normal harddisks.
Any help would be appreciated.

Your motherboard supports 2.5" SATA SSD.
Exact same connection as your HDD.

Having your OS and applications on the SSD, and you'll wonder why you didn't do this long ago.
It IS a major difference.

Well, thats good news then thanks a lot for the info. I really thought it didnt and since i'm getting into gaming back again and it will be really helpful.
So, if you dont mind, can you an example of a good SSD to buy? not too expensive 100-150 max. if possible. I'm planning to install win10 in it plus having my old harddisk( windows 8.1) is it ok right?

Just remember that Microsoft is ending security updates for Windows 10 Home and Professional on 14 October 2025. After this date, your (and all of my) Windows 10 installations will slowly become more susceptible to new virsus exploits that are no longer being patched by Microsoft.

With a computer dating back to 2015 (some of mine go back to 2010) you won't be able to install Windows 11 without a few tweaks. When Microsoft released Windows 11 a few years ago, they increased the minimum security level required of the motherboard, to include TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot (but relaxed it somewhat recently). Your motherboard's BIOS may include these features or it may not. More important, you need a fairly modern CPU no older than 2018/2017 vintage and your 2015 CPU is probably not directly supported.

You can run a tweaked version of Windows 11 on old "unsupported" hardware with an "obsolete" CPU and without TPM and Secure Boot. For this I suggest downloading the Windows 11 ISO (installation file) and adjusting it in Rufus to burn a USB boot stick (8GB or larger).

It's up to you as to what OS you run, but I'm sticking with Windows 10 until the bitter end. Head in sand. Ostrich pose.:)

plus having my old harddisk( windows 8.1)
A quick tip. When installing Windows 10 or 11 on the new SSD, temporarily disconnect (unplug) all other drives (especially the bootable Windows 8 drive) from the motherboard. You don't want the Windows 10 boot partitions ending up on the old Windows 8 drive or another hard disk. When you've finished setting up Win 10/11, you can reconnect Win 8. Probably not a good idea to boot into Win 8 with the internet connected.
