Hello,

I recently got Internet service through Comcast. Unfortunately I wasn't at home when the set up took place but the Comcast person set up the modem and router in the living room. My home is already prewired for ethernet into a panel on the second floor and that I expected Comcast to use.

I need some guidance on how to move my modem, router, and hook it up to the panel so I can get internet access to the other rooms via Ethernet. I have no clue what to plug up to the connections.

This is what my panel looks like.

Overall: http://cl.ly/eAVi
Ethernet Module: http://cl.ly/eAWW
Cable Port Module: http://cl.ly/eALF

I will greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

You could probably move the router to the structured wiring area. Although there are cat5 cables, they are NOT configured for ethernet, they are configured for phone. The "Ethernet" module you show is a Legrand tm1045. It is a 4 like TELEPHONE module. You will have to determine if you can do without the telephone lines to some of the rooms to convert them to ethernet. If so you will need to purchase an ethernet switch to connect them.

From the photos, that is a telecom panel. There is no ethernet switch in there and a switch is needed for computer wiring. So the router is placed for proximity to the TV and where the tech thought it would be most useful for central wifi access.
