  • Need a PC for some hydrologic modeling work involving huge excel sheets and GIS along with Google Earth Pro (Sometimes running all three together with Chrome tabs)
  • With my current laptop, with 8th Gen i7 8650U with 8GB RAMthe excel sheets can be only 10000x10000 with cross-referenced formulas which take a minute to save only ta a SATA SSD.
  • If I use "Excel solver" for optimization, it takes about 30 minutes to arrive at a solution, sometime more. I would like to be able to work with 100,000 X 100,000 sheets if possible at all.
  • I should have chosen Python or R, but now there is no time to learn those and Excel lets me view graphs instantaneously after every value change which I am not sure is possible in the others..
  • I would prefer a system without a dGPU for now as QGIS (No 3D rendering) and Google Earth should be handled fine with the APU.
Here is a proposed build.
CPU:Ryzen 5700G(As I probably don't need a dGPU)(26000INR / $330)
MoBoMSI MAG B550M Mortar WiFi AMD motherboardReasonable price with Wifi so that I can use both M.2 drives16900INR / $215
RAMXPG DDR4 D50 RGB 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz PC4-25600 CL16single dimms of 8GB are available for less. So does it matter if I buy two of those of a pair of these?6690 INR / $85
BOOT Drive: WD Blue SN570 NVMe 1TB SSD, Upto 3,500 MB/sNeed to work on large excel files, sometimes more than 800MB8600 INR / $109
Storage:Kingston NV1 2TB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe Internal SSD Up to 2100 MB/sNeed to save a lot of files15300 INR / $194
PSU:GIGABYTE GP-P650B 650W Power supply(Leaving Room for a future upgrade with a DGPU)4499 INR / $57
Total 77600 INR / $982

Don't want to Exceed the budget by more than 10% of what it is now
So my primary questions are,
  1. Will the CPU and RAM be enough for comfortable work? I don't need lightning-fast response but the PC should not hang when I am running solver
  2. If there is a room for improvement, should I upgrade the CPU or increase RAM to 32GB.
  3. single dimms of 8GB are available for less. So does it matter if I buy two of those instead of a single set of 2X8GB ram sold as a pair?
  4. Any other suggestion.
Will appreciate any reponse..
