My friend has an older machine that will not accept a windows installation. During the CD install, it says it cannot find a file and locks up. We tried to do a network install, replaced the CD rom, tried to install 2003 server and XP home, updated the bios, same problem. We've come to the conclusion it's a problem with the motherboard, as we saw some other people having similar issues with this motherboard on a forum. I wrote to the manufacturer and got a beta bios, same issue.

Anyway, we're in the market for a replacement motherboard for his machine. I'm at work now and can't remember all the specs, but I do remember he has Rambus RAM and a G force 3 video card that isn't integrated. Here's a link to his current motherboard.

I need to know what motherboard to buy and where to buy it from. We're not looking to spend too much money. I'm partial to ASUS, so if someone can recommend an ASUS board that will work with his current parts that would be great.

Definitely test ram first, as that's component that most often causes those erorrs in my experience. Strangely, only once had a bad cdrom show up during an xp/2k install, though I'vehad to replace tons of them at other times.
