A relative of mine who is not very tech-savvy is having problems with his laptop. It runs Windows 8 and I set it up for him maybe 4-5 months ago. I do not have access to the computer but he tells me about all these problems he has, and some of them I find difficult to understand how he is encountering them.
For one thing, he says Windows 8.1 will boot and he "can't type his password". He says he is typing but no dots are showing, as if the keyboard inputs are not being registered. He took it up to a local shop and he showed them directly the problem but they said they found nothing wrong.
Anyways, he also says when he starts up he gets this "screen" and I instantly said "blue screen of death" and he said it is blue, so that must be it. But I am having trouble grasping the first part of how you would type the password but nothing would register. He even said he clicked on the text input box but still nothing.
Of course, it is very hard to solve any problems without being at the computer itself, but what would be some possible things that bring up these happenings? Do you think the BSOD is a RAM issue or rather would it be related to hybrid shutdown (disabling it fixed things for me before)?
Another problem he has is not connecting to the Internet on Windows 8.1, which I myself struggled a lot with on a Windows 8 laptop so that at least is believable. But I just need someone to give me a start, an idea on what to look for if I do get access to the computer (hopefully this weekend).
