I bought two sticks of 16gb ram from the seller which should be 32gb. Seller didn't have it as a pack of two but it was instead sold separately.

When I put the sticks with the ram sticks I already put, it was showing errors like black screen, BSOD and the bios doesn't enable xmp profile for the other two sticks inserted.

When I tested the ram sticks(with all) it's showing errors. After taking out the ram sticks that I bought from the seller I noticed that the model I used earlier is different than the one seller gave me.

Name of the ramstick : Ripjaws V DDR4

Model that I used which included 2x16gb sticks in one pack: F4 3200C-16D -32GVK

Model the seller sold me(separately but same model) :
F4-3200C-16S - 16GVK

Both have that same CL16 - 38 - 38 -38 1.35v and are made in Taiwan.

I already updated the bios to the latest version.

The resolution is that if he can get me the exact model that I have from the Sam ram brand, I just pay the difference and use. Otherwise I get the refund.

But what I want to know is does this model number actually matter even when using the same brand ram,? Because the seller claims that even if you use the 16GVK one with 32GVK one it doesn't matter as they are both the same that have the same capacity. Yet when I look up they say that you shouldn't mix up different rams...but in this case I'm using the very same ram but with different model numbers.

Seller is also saying that there is an issue with the motherboard but it can't be because it's working with the ram sticks I have and apart from not getting more RAM( 🙁 ) nothing seems to be an issue.

Specs
Intel i5 13600k
Ram : 32 GB Ripjaws V
GPU : Nvidia RTX 2060 6GB
Motherboard : MSI MAG B660 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 (MS- 7D41)
OS : Windows 11 Pro
Drives: Kingston A2000 1TB
Crucial MX500 2TB
Crucial MX500 4TB
Samsung 870 Evo 2TB

EDIT: the ram slots are working because it was able to show 64GB inserted. It's just that the stability issues are there. That and xmp profile for the other sticks can't be enabled.

Hey there,

So, you've made the mistake that we advise against on this Forum.

You should never mix and match ram modules (DIMM). Even if they are the same date of manufacture, and the same timings and speed, they are just not guaranteed to work together.

You have found this out the hard way. If you want 32gbs, you need to buy a matched kit, to ensure they work.

Get refund, sell your current ram, and get a 2 x 16gb kit that is matched.

Wait why do I need to sell my current ram that has both sticks with the exact same type of stick and the same model number that supports 32GB Ram? I can understand that I should get the refund for those wrong models but sell the current one?

Sorry, I didn't explain it very well. When you get the new ram, that is compatible, then sell your current ram to offset your cost.

If you use your current ram, with any other ram modules, regardless of if they are the same. Unless you purchase a 2 x matched kit, you may still have problems.

Ok so just so I understand this clearly.

I should get the same rams with the same model number to get the guaranteed result.

I should not use ram sticks even if they are the same if the model numbers are not the same.

In other words, if I want 64GB ram and if I want to continue using the current sticks that have 32GB ram.

The model number for the new sticks should also match this model number F4 3200C-16D -32GVK?

Otherwise I'm better off buying different ram that supports dual channel and 64GB while not using the ones that are 32GB RAM.

Am I correct in this?
