Long story short, my MB lists this CPU as compatible,

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom%20II%20X4%20955%20-%20HDX955WFK4DGM.html

Exact match down to the letter.
Is this the same thing? just different code # due to being a boxed retail version?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL103012&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL103012-_-EMC-103012-Index-_-ProcessorsDesktops-_-19103808-L09A

My MB documentation lists it as 95w, the CPUWorld site lists it as 95w, but newegg lists it as 125w?

I am confused... :??:

Solution
I think the difference was the amount of voltage each version required to operate at the 2.8Ghz clock speed.

In this case (955), it's because the 125W version is a Black Edition chip and the 95W version isn't.
If your MB can handle 125w CPU's you should be fine. If it only handles up to 95w, you could have a problem.

There are indeed different versions of the "same" chips.

There were 95w 1055's and 125w 1055's.

I think the difference was the amount of voltage each version required to operate at the 2.8Ghz clock speed.
