My Specs:

635 Watts Power Supplies Sigma Shark SP-635W PSU
9800 gtx

Alright so I have had problems with freezing since I purchased my computer in 2008. The computer would freeze mid game but only during gameplay and usually about 10-20 min in. This was when I had 2 9400 gt in SLI. Then I called the company that built my computer and they sent me a new motherboard. I replaced the motherboard but after that I got a ps3 and stopped gaming on my PC.

Recently I got myself a 9800 gtx and upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. Now during gameplay the computer will freeze. By freeze I mean I need to hardboot to get the computer to run again. The mouse and keyboard wont work and the game will freeze on the fame its at.

Now I have tried a bunch of things:
- First things pointed to heat issues because my computer runs a little hot (60 c on GPU in game and 50 c on cpu in game) I cleaned out the case and all of the dust and got the temp to drop about 2 c This did not fix the problem
- Second I tested the GPU thinking it was a faulty card using 3d mark. Came back fine so that knocks out the GPU
- Third I tested the RAM first with testing program then by popping one stick out playing until it froze and then trying the other. The computer froze with either one in knocking out the ram.
- I had to replace the motherboard so that knocks out the motherboard

Recently a new problem has arose. When the computer is in sleep mode for an extended period of time I will have to hardboot to get the computer to work. Sometimes it resumes windows and sometimes i need to hardboot twice to get the option to delete the resortation data. I am not sure if these two problems are related.

Any help would be great

Checked everything out about the Nvidia one first and it seems driver checkers mess it up
I made sure I have the newest chipset drivers from EVGA and I do
So now what it seems like a dead end?

hmm. im thinking that this is software related...

try anything to fix it up, update drivers, patch game to latest version, in worst case, reinstall windows... Perhaps try that on another drive to see if it helps, so you dont lose your current perfectly configured system..

reinstalling windows is a bit drastic though, I would use it as last option if you have to do it over your current install.

Yea but it freezes on more then one game
Drivers are now all up to date from what I can tell
So reinstall windows? It was freezing when I had vista too so you think its still software?
Has anyone ever had this from usb stuff?

Reading a forum and there are problems with the 790i do you think my 750i could have the same problems
Here is what they are saying about memory

I hear that the 9800 cards have issues with AA so perhaps not using it for the time being would be the solution.

First off, nvidia never really fixed the fan speed issue.

What I use is evga precision tool and I have to set the fan speed to 100% to apply at startup, if I do not apply it at startup then it will revert right back to auto at 60 degrees just like in earlier driver versions. And if I do not open evga precision tool everytime I reboot, the fan speed will revert back to auto at 60 degrees. With some other progams you may have to set the fan speed to 99% and back to 100% to get it to hold, but with evga precision tool I just put it in startup and it solves that issue.

If you are running your RAM at more than the 790i will handle, then you will get a lot of crashes. But if you adjusted your timings accordingly, then the problem is not OCZ - people have the same problems with Corsair and Crucial models made for this board.

Here is my memory guide to the 790i.

The board appears to have issues when handling large amounts of RAM - not picked up by memtest or stress tests.

Set cmmand rate to 2T. Board just will not handle 1T.

Add 1/1/1/3 to your memory timings so if you have ram that is 9-9-9-27, you should be running it at least at 10-10-10-30 (2T).

Lower your memory timings no lower than 7-7-7-21-2T at up to 1333mhz and 8-8-8-24 from the 1600 to 1800 mhz range. Use stock voltage.

If you have RAM rated at 7-7-7-21 or lower latencies try these timings, which are good for up to 1600mhz.

8-8-8-24-2T

tRRD – 1 (always)

tRC – 38 (Auto sets this too low. The general rule is to use whatever you use for tRP and tRAS, add them together and 2 as the lowest safest setting, but I'm not sure that rule holds true with DDR3. Some people will say to use 50+ here, if you really want to be safe. This is the most important timing with nvidia chipsets, but also has a fairly large impact on stability.).

tWR – 12

tWTR – 19

tFAW – 40 (try setting this to your tRC value + 2 with 2gb ram. try tRC + 12 with more than 2gb, so 50. Auto is usually really low).

tREF – 7.8uS - set this manually rather than using auto, auto uses 7.7 and people report that that alone causes them problems.

Does that make any sense to you guys?

OK im going to do the follow things
CPU voltage check and fix if a problem
FSB voltage change to 1.2
USB elimination
Change RAM to slots next to each other (read manual for MB)
Check if error code comes up on little screen on MB
Check when freezes if red overheat light comes up by CPU
See if BIOS up to date (how do I do that?)
Registry cleaner

Does that sounds good?

Ok tried to change the FSB voltage to 1.275 and then to 1.75 or something around there and it freaked out (froze) and now im running system repair so the next thing was to check the CPU voltage and its at around 1.1 so thats fine

No error codes on MOBO when it freezes or red light by the CPU
Now I need to switch the ram and do the USB elimination

Then I will go from there
