Need help with overclock

Hello all , I am batting 1000 for resolving issues by posting here so here goes another.

I just built a new system for a buddy consisting of the following.

E8400
MSI P7N ( 750i )
4G Corsair
XFX 9800 GTX

This board uses AMI Bios which is usually very user friendly but I am having difficulty over clocking. The issue is not stability but the act of over clocking itself. In the bios the over clocking is done in the "cell" menu. I am accustomed to simply changing the CPU frequency and multiplier. On this board there is no option to do so.

I can enable D.O.T which is useless or change the FSB speed which is already set at 1333. I can raise the FSB speed but the CPU clock does not change. No matter what I do it remains 333x9 (3.0 GHz)

Please offer any suggestions. Am I simply missing something or what? As we all know this CPU over clocks extremely well and we want to take advantage of that.

ok I changed the FSB to 1600 which equates to 400x9 = 3.6.

This is exactly what the bios says

E8400 @ 3.0 , FSB @ 1600 @ 3.6 , 400x9

Why does this show 3.6 but windows and cpuid still show the fsb @ 333x9 for 3.0 GHz ??

I'm so confused !!!

No E.I.S is disabled. Here is a screen of the bios. When I bump the FSB to 1600 ( 400x9 ) it will reflect at the top but not in windows. What am I doing wrong ?

i think its your OC failed during POST. up the vcore slightly.

The bios posts and I successfully get into windows. the problem is that windows and CPUID show 3.0 GHz. The system is not over clocking.

The voltage shown is over stock. This is not my bios but the same version taken from the mfg. website.

update the BIOS to the latest version. see if things improve.

hum...change the ram multiplier to 1:1 or 2x or sync what ever is shown in your BIOS.

i heard some that have the same issue. they end up RMA the mobo and the problem is solve. but you should think of other reason because overclock is not a acceptable reason since its not included in the stock spec.

I can RMA but I would rather not. It was purchased from Fry's and they are pretty good about exchanges.

There has got to be a way to get this to work. I mean it's there in the bios but not reflecting in windows.

Does anyone else have any ideas ?
