need help with upgrading the system, thx

hello everyone, i was recently having some performance problems with my pc and decided to upgrade the components. i have come to these forums to ask for advice on better components at decent prices that are compatible with each other. first things first, this is the system that i have:

i m ok on headset/monitor/mouse/keyboard, so no need to waste money on those.
Looking to upgrade this system for work as well as games playable at max settings, looking to get to i71080ti as well as other compatible parts to go with it. any recommendations are appreciated. budget is around 1500~

With that budget, I recommend getting the best of the best coffee lake CPU and 1080 since a good monitor is needed as well. Reuse HDD, OS, Case, PSU and cooler.

With the new hardware would i advice to use W10. OP seems fine with the monitor he/she has so can come from there.

What monitor is in use right now?

Might as well put a new psu in there since this one seems pretty old already.Might be working fine ,but at some point if having the funds is it good to upgrade that. The old can still be kept as back up,but that's just my opinion.

ty for ur replies guys..i been scratching my head over this for the last couple of days. i think this is what the bottom line is right now..please post if its viable or need to make any obvious changes.

cpu: intel i7-7700 (330 at amazon)
mobo : maximum ix code (278 at amazon) --why is hero more expensive than code?! and will this board fit in my case?
ram: i will keep what i have, can always upgrade down the road if i need to.
gpu: gtx 1080 ti armor 11gb (719 at amazon)
psu: keeping the 750 i have for now --or do i need the 850 to support this system?!
ssd: samsung 960 512gb (290 at amazon)
cpu cooler and cooler master case --will keep the same unless they dont fit the rest of the part?! please let me know.
mouse/keyboard/monitor/headset: will keep the same since i have decent ones, can always upgrade in the future if i need it.
OS: will probably get w10 home edition(probably around 100)

thats roughly around 1720$, a bit over budget but these components shld be viable for the foreseeable future. can u guys plz look at them and let me know if they are mutually compatible and if i have missed something obvious.

You really should try to snag an 8th gen CPU because they have increased the core count. Your PC will last longer and perform better on multi threaded software and games and handle multitasking better too. Also you would need ddr4 memory either way and a z370 motherboard for the coffee lake CPU.

from what i understand the price difference isnt worth the little performance upgrade the 8th gen is offering, so since i was alrdy over my budget i decided to stick to the 7700.

As for the ram, does ddr3 sticks i have doesnt work with this mobo at all? i was thinking of upgrading to a couple ddr4 sticks in a few months so it doesnt add up the cost right now.

You can preorder the i7 8700 for $339 on B&H right now so for $10 you are getting 2 extra cores and 4 threads.

7700 needs ddr4 ram, ddr3 is not supported. I5-8600k beats 7700 easily and keep an upgrade path as Z370 MB can support 1-2 more new gen Intel CPUs. Locked 7700 on a overclockable expensive MB? Wasted. Coffee lake will win due to better single core and extra 2 cores.

thanks guys for all ur replies..these past 2-3 days made me realize how much new stuff is out there and how little i knew about them, but learning about them, learning the differences and which component required which other component to get paired with them was very very interesting. the one thing i felt like was wrong was 370 motherboards needing 8th gen cpus. but besides that, it was a lot of fun. i finally made the full list..ordered all the parts. went a bit over budget😛 ended up with ~2350ish with tax.oh well, this shld last me for a few years. hopefully when i put everything together, it works well😀
