Fellows,
I need you opinions on the following two lcd displays, which is better for gaming and watching movies?

Display 1 (wide screen)
width 19 in.
height 12 in.
diagonal 22 in.
resolution 1680x1050

Display 2 ( normal screen)

width 15 in.
height 12 in.
diagonal 19 in.
resolution 1280x1024

Solution
Are the measurements give just the screen size or does that include the Bezel ?? -- PC standard is 96 DPI (dots per inch) so when programmers design a screen they design it to be shown on a monitor using 96 DPI so you want a monitor that is close to that standard so screens look like they were designed to look ( lower DPI looks fuzzy due to large dots and higher sometimes looks better with smaller dots but the overall screen image can become distorted with text looking much smaller than it should)

With Both of these monitors (if you use screen dimensions instead of overall dimension including the 1\2 to 3\4" bezel all around) they are fairly close to the standard for their size so it more comes down to whether you prefer a widescreen...

these are OEM SUN microsystems lcd's. have no info on model or specs. thats why I'm trying to find out by testing both. just wanted to know second opinions. any way i can find out the response times? contrast seems pretty good.

Personally I like the widescreen format so between the 2 I'd go with the 22" 1680x1050 ( But actually I'd go with a 23" 1920x1080 to get the 1080P resolution at 96DPI !)

DPI isn't everything. There are other factors such as panel type, color quality, response time, and contrast ratio.

True -- but when looking at monitors in a specific price range chances are those items are going to be similar -- color quality and contrast ratios are impossible to compare without 3rd party reviews, as the preferences are going to vary from person to person and the default color setting when shipped may vary and is adjustable by the end user, and the reported contrast ratio specs vary from company to company and are usually made up by the marketing dept. -- the response times are of little importance as long as you stick to a decent level (5ms or less) since the testing procedures used for reporting the spec also varies.

Leaving the Panel type which is going to make a large difference in the pricing of the monitor so when talking about similar priced monitors chances are they are both the same panel type or it would be mentioned in the original post.
