Hello. I am upgrading my CPU, and need some help. Debating on what the best processor for my radeon rx 560 4gb would be. So for I'm seeing the i5 8400 & 8600k, a long with the ryzen 5 1600 or 1600x. I'm buying an aio collar, so I just need some help figuring out what my best option is. I'm also looking at 1080 with 144hz refresh rate. I play games such as ark, quantum break, league, overwatch, tomb raider, wit her, and would like to play in at least high.

I'm also thinking about upgrading my GPU or running due, any suggestions?
Debating on a 1050ti 4gb, or 1060 3gb if I can sell my current card, or buying a second rx 560, but I'm not sure if that would be worth it to run two 540 4gbs. Still new to building.

My budget for ddr4 ram, cpu and motherboard, as well as cooler, is $600. Anything left over will go towards gpu upgrade.

Solution

No problem, good luck with the new parts. If you need any help in the future send me a PM by going to my profile and then click send private message.
I5 8400 or 8600k is better than Ryzen performance wise.

A 1050TI won't be able to push 144FPS on high. Nor will a 1060.
You need at least a 1070 to play more demanding games, such as Tomb Raider or Witcher on high at over 100FPS.

If you can't get over 100FPS in games, a 144Hz display is pretty much useless. I mean, you won't gain the full benefits of the display.

I wouldn't use 2 rx560s, I'd sell the rx560 and get upgrade to a rx580(8gb) or higher. SLI and Crossfire don't make that much of a difference especially in lower to mid-end cards, in some cases adding an additional graphics card will only make you get worse performance...

I'm looking to future proof, don't plan on upgrading again for 3 to 5 years. My monitor is an Asus 24inch 144hz and 1ms, with full 1080, I got it on sale for $100 so I couldn't pass it up. I currently have an i3 4170 with a rx 560 4gb and 8gb of ddr4 ram on a msi 1150 motherboard.

I play mainly league, ark, just cause 3, fall out 4, witcher 3, murdered soul suspect, resident evil, dead rising to name a few.

just looking a upgrade performance and visuals that will last me a few years, while not going broke.

asus vg248qe
I3 4170
8gb ddr3 ram
Xfx rx 560 4gb ram
Msi H81m-P33 motherboard
6tb hard drive
256gb sad drive

That's currently what I'm running, if you guys/gals have any specific parts you recommend. I'm using a corsair carbide tower.

If you either have more money to spend on a GPU or you don't mind spending the full $600 on the CPU, cooler, and MOBO than I can modify the list to get you a great setup for now and then all you have to do is upgrade the GPU sometime in the future when prices aren't too high. If you have any preferences on what specific parts I can do so.

I wouldn't mind spending the full 600 now, and worry about the gpu later. I know upgrading the cpu ram and mobo now will greatly improve my current performance as I'm using older ddr3 aa well as a 4th gen i3. I'm surprised at the performance I'm getting now with it so I know ill be amazed from the upgrade. Keep in mind the aio cooler I'm looking at is 70 on amazon, unless you recommend a different one.

I also want to say thank you for helping me out with this. This is my first build and I definitely want to get the best parts that will work together, at a good price. I've been reading as much as I can, but getting an expert's advice and direct personal help to me is always better.

I will try to adjust the list to best fit your needs.

I noticed on the pc parts picker you didn't have any ram. Is there any you recommend on that? I trust corsair, crucial, asus, msi, evga, I've heard good things about gigabyte, not sure about other companies but I do take any recommendations, as my brother recommended xfx and their card seems to be good so far.

Do you think amd/radeon are better than nvidia? I was going to get the 4gb 1050ti, but it was $50 more than the rx 560 4gb, and I didn't think there would be a difference.

My apologies for asking a lot of questions, I just really want to understand the differences. I look at the debate between ryzen 5 1600x and i5 8400 or i58600k and while the ryzen seems to have more cores or threads, the i5 is widely more popular and has higher benchmarks.

I don't have a color scheme so far, probly go with rgb as I can change it as I feel. I currently have a deathadder and ornata chrome and change the color often lol. But if it's cheaper I'd probly fo with either blue, green or no color. Or do you think the lighting makes it better?

I'm fine with you asking questions, ask as many questions as you need to. If it means that I can fully understand what you're looking for or it helps you understand the differences between parts, I'm more than happy with answering your question. I have time to answer your questions.

Color and lighting is only atheistic and personal preference based. If your not sure, I'd say to opt for RGB as it allows you to change the color of the part anytime you want to.

You are awesome
Do you recommend aio coolers or fans, and why? I've seen some people skeptical about having water in thier computers, but I see it does keep the heat down drastically. With the options I'm looking at, is heat going to be an issue?

If you want to spend a little now and upgrade the GPU later with saved money and the money left over than I'd go with an i5. If you want to just ignore the GPU for now and get the best CPU for now and worry about the GPU some other time, I'd get a Ryzen 7 1700x. Or you can get upgrade your GPU now and worry about the CPU, MOBO, RAM, and cooler later. Unless you have more to spend I think that one of those choices are your best options.
