Hello. I am upgrading my CPU, and need some help. Debating on what the best processor for my radeon rx 560 4gb would be. So for I'm seeing the i5 8400 & 8600k, a long with the ryzen 5 1600 or 1600x. I'm buying an aio collar, so I just need some help figuring out what my best option is. I'm also looking at 1080 with 144hz refresh rate. I play games such as ark, quantum break, league, overwatch, tomb raider, wit her, and would like to play in at least high.

I'm also thinking about upgrading my GPU or running due, any suggestions?
Debating on a 1050ti 4gb, or 1060 3gb if I can sell my current card, or buying a second rx 560, but I'm not sure if that would be worth it to run two 540 4gbs. Still new to building.

My budget for ddr4 ram, cpu and motherboard, as well as cooler, is $600. Anything left over will go towards gpu upgrade.

I can ignore the gpu altogether for now, if you think it's a good gpu.

What's the difference between the processors, I see so many options
I5 8400 or 86005
Ryzen 5 1600 or 1600x and now your saying the 1700x.
Being a new builder it's a little confusing lol.

I was saying that if you wanted to save your money for the GPU down the line than I'd go for the i5 8600k because it's the best for your money out of the four that you've mentioned. However, if you're not so worried about buying a new GPU for now and you're fine with spending the $600 on everything else while ignoring the GPU than I'd get a Ryzen 7 1700x because they're really fast for the money.

So ignoring the GPU for now, my question is do how much will you spend on a new CPU, Cooler, MOBO, and RAM (If you want more RAM, but you should be fine for now).

Well I have to upgrade ram, as ddr3 doesn't work in the new motherboards, but I could go for a single ddr4 8gb and get a second down the line. Unless I'm wrong, I believe the am4 and 1151 can only use ddr4

In total I'll spend the whole 600.

Oh okay, I forgot that you only had ddr3. AM4 is only compatible with ddr4. So I'll make a list for around $600 that will upgrade your CPU, cooler, MOBO, and RAM ( RGB is preferred). Sounds good.

On paper, the i5 8600k seems to be better than every option compared to what I've listed, as well as the 1700x you recommend. Is there a real world difference? My rig right now is for gaming and school work, however I'm going for my certification in web design sometime this year.

My question is, is the 1700x better than the i5 8600k? Also, as a newbie to this type of things i have no plans on over clocking lol

The Ryzen 7 1700x is far better than the i5 8600k, but it's also more expensive. The 8600k is on average 15 fps faster than the 1600x for about the same price. So you are correct that the i5 is good, and it is better than the 1600x, but the 1700x is better than both of them.

I noticed the price on amazon is only a $30 dollar difference between the 8600k and 1700x.
Learning from my mistake of getting the 560 4gb instead of spending the $50 more and getting the 1050ti 4gb, I'll probly get the 1700x

So paper doesn't equate to real world performance. I hate benchmarks lol

I have not heard about the 2000 series yet, I'll check it out soon. Sorry for taking so long, everything is expensive and I'm trying to not make this complicated for you or me.

I almost added that cooler, but it was hard to find it in US. I don't know if it won't work for me or what, but when I clicked on the amazon link to that cooler it said page not found. If the link works for you, then go for it.

It doesn't have to be RGB, I was just trying to see if you wanted an RGB cooler or if that doesn't matter to you.

Both will do, but I chose the other one because you said that you prefer blue or green. The one I found was mostly black with some RGB. The one you picked is black and red and that won't really fit in if you want a blue or green theme. The RGB will allow you to chose any color you want.
