My computer recently has been fluctuating in fps while playing games such as css and wow. This has just started happening the past week. I've got a pretty old system, amd64 3500+, 2gigs, 7600GT agp. I've done some cpu overclocked just from the motherboard oc configurations.

The problem: When playing css or wow, every say 10 seconds the fps drops considerably and there is a noticable hickup of frames. This last for about 1 second and keeps occuring every 10 seconds. I can count it out and know when it will happen again.

Also, I have some pics of task manager and wanted to know if this was normal:

What did you change recently that could have triggered this?

Lots of possibilities:

Software causes:
Progs grabbing the CPU every now and then e.g. AV software. Kill off all unnecessary software and test again.
Make sure your system is fully patched up and you have the latest drivers.

Hardware causes:
Check your case cooling e.g. fans running or clogged.
Run with the case open for a while to monitor things.
Run memtest to check your ram.
If you are OCing ... got back to stock and test for the effect.

...

If the effect is clockwork regular its probably software. Watch task manager without gaming and check for other processes chomping the CPU every 10 secs.

well, i d/l that program:
This is while playing counter strike source.

Also, i dont think its a heating problem. I have a freezer pro hsf on it and using asus probe i really only hit 45-50c under load. :/
