Hello Gurus:

Need your suggestion for day to day home based computing needs, watching movies, making home videos (HD), burning HD video projects to blu-ray, surfing internet, etc..,

Thank you,

The i7 920 runs about $290 in US, so I'm guessing that you either are not in the US or need that $400 for more then just the cpu.

So a PII 955 c3 is $160 on newegg.com, can get a good asus board for $110ish, and 4gb of ddr3 for $105ish. Total would be around $375. There are also boards in the $60 range that are good but dont have as many features. You can try an i5 setup, but it will push you past your $400 limit.

I would go with the AMD Athlon II X4 620 (AM3). It is a great quad-core and it is less than $100, which it makes it great for home use.... IMO.

If you are wanting something more on the higherend, I would go with either the Intel i7 860 (Socket 1156) or i7 920 (Socket 1366).

For your needs there are numerous possibilities - what kind of budget were you wanting to spend and do you need an entire system (if so do you also need the copy of windows and a monitor etc. or do you already have some parts or just the CPU to go with one (and if just the CPU what other parts do you already have ) - If a full system do you need a pre assembled or are you going to build it ?

It depends on how Extreme those HD Home Videos end up being (or how often you make them and how long they are and how much editing you're looking to do).

I find that even a Core i7 clocked at 4.4GHz (with Turbo for 4.6GHz) is not enough for my HD needs.

Thank you for the quick response. But my budget is < $400. I do have monitor, power supply, case, keyboard, mouse etc..,
