So I recently started editing very high FPS clips (600FPS) in after effects, but it's pretty slow
I currently have a ryzen 5 2600 overclocked to all core 3.9Ghz
1x16gb 2400 RAM module overclocked to 2733

would it be a better idea to buy a ryzen 9 3900x with 4x8gb 3000Mhz modules
or a ryzen 7 3800x with 4x16 3000Mhz modules

mainly want to optimize playback speed in preview windows in after effects

Solution
Here the thing.
If your projects need more than 32gb of ram, Get the 4x16, if they don't, its useless.

Having more ram won't give you any benefit, unless you top out.
meaning if your project uses 25gb of ram, having 32 is what you need, and having 64 wont give you any help.
but, if your project is 33gb, you MUST have more than 33, as it will be very very slow.
You get the point.

the 3900x is much faster than the 3800x, with 4 more cores.
But if you need more ram, that matters most.

but does the ram speed really affect it in any big way? Cos I could probably get the 3900x with 64GB but 2400Mhz
