Hello,

I've come to these fine forums in utter desperation. I have no idea what is going on and would gladly except any advice anyone might provide.

Starting around Saturday night a very odd thing began happening. I had left my computer running and when I came back I couldn't view any webpages and I was disconnected from AIM. I am forced to use dial-up due to my location. When I went to bring up the status of the connection from the task bar, it would flash up and disappear. I tried right-clicking and all the options it gave from the task bar, none would work. I couldn't reconnect to the internet.
I was forced to restart my computer in order to get back online.

A few hours after I reconnected, it occured again. I messed around with various ideas, including a different phoneline and ISP connection. When it was still happening a day later I decided to format.

After formatting, I now receive an error message when it occurs which looks like this:
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close

Checking the event long, this is the error I receive:
Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module netapi32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0000a3c0.

Up to this point, it had been three years since I've had to reinstall Windows and that wasn't even the solution. I have no idea why this has suddenly started happening. My computer was fine and then out of no where its getting errors and destroying my internet connection.

Does anyone know or have any ideas what could be causing this?
what is netapi32.dll for? and which svchost.exe is dying? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and any ideas you can provide

Note: During the time it took me to write this, I've received the error again. Having to restart my computer before I could even get this post up.

I have also started to have this problem. My problem also started on saturday. I have been scoping all the anti-virus sites, all the microsoft support sites and even microsoft themselfs can not help me.

What I have come to found out is that svchost is a program that allows dll files to run as programs providing advanced services.

Please someone help. I think its a virus but I have scanned my machine with 2 different anti-virus systems and I have gone through anti-spams and adware removers and still nothing.

COPY OF THE MESSAGE
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problems and needs to close

Sorry, i wrote it in german, so here my english version....(edited)
Many of you probably encountered probs with the internet the last few days and got this error
"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problems and needs to close" or in addition to that they had no sound as well ...
the problem is the new exploit which attacks ppl through open ports, that affects the netapi32.dll which can be easily fixed ...

Solution:
Download Windows Worms Door Cleaner

http://www.firewallleaktester.com/tools/wwdc.exe

and close all ports, many of u should get ur problems fixed with it

Good Luck

Have closed ports, now appears to be working okay...will post again if the error returns..

Cheers

Matt

P.S Thanks to Fudgi on http://forum.hijackthis.com

Several people including myself have been using this program after closing all ports for several hours and it appears to working quite well. I intend to leave my internet connection running much longer to fully test it, but I think this is the best current solution.

The windows door cleaner option seems to have fixed it. As far as I can see its a worm that no anti-virus or spyware can pick up that causes an over flow through ports 445 and 135 which are rpc ports.

I am also getting a generic host error. I have tried a ton of stuff and nothing is working.

My problem:

I sent my laptop in to get repaired. I believe what was repaired was the DC adapter and one of the fans were cleaned.

They reinstalled windows in it and now that I have it back I keep getting the "generic host error" when, and only when, I try to log on to my at home wireless network. Now it didn't do this when I sent it in, only after. And I know the laptop works fine on other wireless networks. When the error comes up, I lose internet activity.

The desktop the router is connected is unaffected. I tried reinstalling the wireless network again, but that had no affect.

I tired reinstalling windows, that had no affect.

I tried a bunch of stuff, from microsoft fixes to worm closers. Nothing has worked.
