My laptop running Windows 10 has suddenly become unresponsive. For example if I click one of the folders on my Windows desktop, it tries to open it but it never loads. If I try to open Chrome, it takes ages, other apps work fine, for example Firefox opens immediately. Out of the few I've tried, Chrome and File Explorer seems to be the problematic ones. If I open another program and try to browse for a file to open, it also freezes.
I have also lost all network connectivity , if I open Network Connection it shows " this folder is empty"

I've tried restoring the system to a point in time (10 days ago) and it still doesn't work (it was working the last few days).

I've tried a memory diagnostic scan but it didn't find any problem.

I've tried safe mode and I experience the same problems.

What can I do?

What is the make and model of your laptop?

Are you able to open up Task Manager? If so, see if your system resource usages are at or close to 100%,notably Disk Usage. While you're able to get into Safe Mode, I'd advise on backing up your mission critical data. The inability of system restore to resolve the issue would indicate either your drive giving up or the OS is corrupt beyond a repair and a reinstall is the route to take.

If it's similarly unresponsive in Safe Mode then it's not a Windows problem at all but a hardware one. Given the symptoms you describe I'd bet that your laptop uses an HDD? MY bet would be that the disk is failing so backup all your user data now.

Apologies @Lutfij, I failed to read your post before adding mine. 😊
