network without router?

this is the situation: i live in a basment suit i share the internet with the landlord upstairs so i dont have acsess to the router. i do want to hook up a smaller computer beside my tv ect so i can whatch movies on the tv is there any way to (join) or network my main computer to my tv room one wirelessy or maybe even wired with out acsess to the router?

i have 2 computers in my basement both reciveing internet wireless...ly?...all i want is to connect my 2 computers together to transfer files thats it...could i use a spare router as a hub of some sort...lol i dunno

Get a router capable of "Wireless Bridge" (I am using this one, it can be found on sale for $30). It will let you connect to the main router (without that router' help), and connect other devices wired or wireless=ly.

It sounds as if they are both connecting wirelessly to your landlord's router. In which case you need nothing extra - they should already be able to network with each other.

Second router (working in bridge mode) connects wirelessly to the main router. From that router, you run Ethernet cable to your computer and your TV (or keep your computer' connected using WiFi).

I agree with McHenryB. If they are already connected to the same network wirelessly, then you should be good to go. Try setting up a shared folder on one of your computers, then try to access it on the other. You will need to know the computer name to put in your file explorer.

Why not just put a new router in? Like Landlord's router ----> (Wan interface)Your router,...
Just tell your router to get an IP address from your landlord's and make sure you put in the default gateway which is the ip address of your landlord's router. It's that simple and you got yourself a network in the house.

But like what the other people say here. Get a Wireless bridge.

if both computers have wifi, set up an Ad hoc network with the two computers and allow one computer to share the internet connection.
