Soo... when its AMD that is paying their CEO large sums, people are okay with that? Interesting...

I hope he does well enough that the board and shareholders could justify raising that salary to $1 million per week.

You are all trying to defend this, but the salary isn't even where hes getting rich - its stock options and bonuses. He will be making tens if not hundreds of millions off that.

Really, no one in a business besides those vested in it should ever make over $250k salary. It just isn't justified pay at that point.

Here's hoping that he makes the company understand they need to get back on top for the riches to flow back in to pay for him!

That wouldn't be a problem if only common folks would understand that for 95% of what they use their computers for, they couldn't tell the difference between an AMD cpu or an Intel cpu...

They could get back into the market big and strong and drive into Intel with enough competition for us to enjoy lower prices, and better tech!

Just change people's way of thinking about AMD and everyone will profit from it!

Regardless of whether he deserves it or not, anyone making the argument that 1 million "isn't that much anymore" is retarded. Tell that to the VAST majority who make under 50k. And those are the ones lucky enough to be employed. Most people will spend their CAREERS making what he'll get in 2 years, BEFORE perks.

1 Million is a HUGE salary.

Sounds OK to me.
I hope the head engineer is on twice that, though. A poorly run IC company with a great chip is better for people than a well run company with a poor chip. Especially in the computer hardware industry where quality is so easily measured (compared to most other industries).

1$ million wtf...look at his face, its like "Punch ME" .

I would not pay him 10$ to clean my car.

Fricking corporate mofos.

It is pretty sad when a NON-inventor, NON-creative, and really NON-visionary, are getting paid MILLIONS, while the REAL inventors/creators, etc get VERY LITTLE compared to ceos.
What USE to be a small gap between rich and middle class (example america's money... 50% to rich, 50% to middle class/poor back in the 80's), has now changed to over 80% to the rich and only 20% to the middle class/poor. usa's economy is DIRECTLY depended on MIDDLE CLASS, not the rich.
I believe you should get paid by performace, but sadly those days are gone (at least i haven't seen it done that way for years now). Basic pay is now "how little can i get away with" for middle class, and "sky's the limit" for the rich.

If someone in a pharmaceutical company finds a cure for 10% of cancers, they're worth at least 1 billion US$.
If someone employed in research solves 10% of the problems in constructing a viable fusion power plant, they're worth at least 10 billion US$.

Wouldn't it be something if AMD could actually BEAT intel's performance and be desirable because they had the best performing CPUs?

That would be refreshing and I hope we get to see it again one day. One day. If Read could make that happen pay the man $2M or more for all I care.

If he can get AMD to have 4 profitable quarters in a row and boost total sales / net profits, he deserves all he can get. I hope they were smart enough to tie his bonuses to the next 5 - 10 years and not on a quarterly basis (to force long term thinking).

Either way he's got a tough job. Intel on his left, ARM / NVidia / Apple (?) on his right. Graphic cards that are good but not groundbreaking new tech (compared to everyone else) and CPUs that are at best "mass market" (read low margin).

Are all of you out of your mind? The guy has no responsibility. The worst thing which can happen to him is that he gets fired. No penalties. He does not have to perform. This is crazy. That's why the stock looks the way it looks.

CEO's do little more than breathe in and out. They spend every hour of every day in meetings with people and occasionally have to use their brain to make a yes or no decision. They get multiple secretaries to schedule everything for them and tell them where they need to be. That's totally worth 1 mil a year. Don't worry about the engineers doing real work and getting paid 1/10th that. And don't worry about making the right or wrong decisions because even if you leave in 3 years you've still made more than an engineer makes in their entire CAREER.

I can see a CEO getting paid that much if they actually have been at the company since the very beginning and put in the miles building it up to what it is today. But nowadays CEOs are largely plug and play regurgitation from other companies and don't deserve such massive benefits.

I've had enough of all these men & women that say they know every thing, but they just hope that they can get a real easy cushy job with lots of easy money to go with it. All this is too much bullshit,it's just the people they know trying to keep the good ole boys & girls in the money line up.

One last thing that I forgot to mention was that did anybody think about the engineers & scientists that are the real people that make AMD what they are. The big mouths the get the CEO jobs are only that, big mouths with no real talent at all. Infact every thing is based on the engineers & scientists succeeding & if they do well than these CEO's and the like think they should get higher amounts of money just for someone else succeeding in their job.

Is it not the CEO's that give the direction to the engineers & scientists?
