Whatz up Techies...
I think I'm up Shutz Creek.

I finally got everything delivered.
ASUS P5B mobo, Intel Conroe E6600 CPU, ATI X1900 AIW Vid card, OCZ DDR2-800 PC6400 1GB x 2 RAM & the Ultra ATX case.
I spent three hours hooking it all up only to turn it on & TADA.... No display, "NADA, SQUAT, ZILCH, NOTHING!!!" Not even a beep. Anyone have any ideas before I start saying the mobo is dead?

"The eight steps to knowing you're in the New DIY PC Builder's Hell"

1- :x I tried reseating the video card,

2- :x I disconnected everything from the mobo except for the power switch leads & PC speaker.

3- :x I reseated the CPU 3x & everytime it was another drop of thermal compound,

4- :x I tried booting the system without the vid card to see if it even beeped. the green mobo power LED on the mobo always came on. Indicating that power was good.

5- I even removed the ATX power cable to see if the system would boot up without it, which id didn't. This is normal, so that's working,

6- I took the mobo out of the case & powered it up incase there was some unforseen short being caused (I've had this happen),

7- tried taking out the RAM, one stick at a time,

8- swapped the ram around,

Could it be the RAM? Hmmmm. Maybe it's not compatible? It is DDR2-800 PC6400. The ASUS manual doesn't list it as approved memory. The manual says only Kingston, Samsung, Infineon, Hynix, MICRON & A-DATA memory is compatible.

Any thoughts or clues would be helpful before I start making phone calls..

Thanks guys & gals...
:x /

OCZ + Asus P5B has been a problem for many people, just google "OCZ Asus P5B Problem" or search this forum, it worked fine with my corsair though.

RMA the RAM and get kingston or corsair IMO.

I searched & learned. Thanks man. I'll be doing that, ASAP, too. I shoulda seen the signs when the ram was on sale from $229 RAM is going for $160 over at ZipZoomFly.com.

Try also this simple test,

Leave only the basics on the motherboard, that is, power supply properly connected, and CPU. Make sure there is no memory in any of the memory slots. Attempt to power up the system.

If your motherboard is dead you will not hear any beeps.

If your motherboard beeps (and it should because the memory is missing) then it might be ok.

In other words, this test can only tell you if your motherboard is defective. It cannot assure you that it is working properly though.

Hope that helps.

See, I missed that one. I did do this but with the Vid card to see if the mobo would beep indicating that there wasn't any Vid card in the syste,. Sheesh!!! The simplest things just don't come so simply anymore.

Well, I did it. The Mobo is beeping, recognizing the missing mem. It's not Deed!!!. It's gotta be the OCZ RAM. This RAM is running @ the rated CL 5-5-5-12 class.
RMAing this Beee-aach back!!! Maybe I'll see if they can up it upto the P5B Deluxe. Hmmmmm.

Didnt want to create a new thread hoping some of you could asnwer this question, kinda related. P5B vs P5B delux, is there a difference when it comes to performance and overclocking or are there just extra features? I cant find any reviews of the P5B, seem the delux is the only mobo people are concerned about. I live in Canada and the prices are 189.99 and 249.99 in Canadian currency. Is it worth the extra 60 dollars or is it not worth taking that risk and getting a inferior board. Im thinking of taking a E6300/E6400 to 2.8-3.2 ghz range w/ corsair xms2 ddr800 ram. Thanks for your answers!

The P5B is a good board for sure. But it lacks from the features the Deluxe version has, like the WiFi on board, 2 Gigabit ethernets, ICH8R South Bridge (vs the ICH8 from P5B vainilla) and it comes packed with lots of accesories and cables.

The US price for the P5B is $160 and the Deluxe version es $260. That's a $100 difference.

In Canada, the P5B seems to be quite expensive and if the diference between that and upgrading to the P5B is only $60 Canadian... I'd go for it.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I do believe the P5B Deluxe has more OCing options than the standard P5B.

Both come with awesome features for OCing and Power management.
Check this out if you haven't already.

Cool thanks, so I guess its worth the extra 60 buks then. You say itz 260 in the us?? and itz only 250 the in canada and w/ a cheaper currency? Wow, i feel lucky ahhaa. Ok, I'll stick with the P5B delux then and with Corsair, Kingston or Mushkin ram, I really like OCZ but y did they have to make it incompatible w/ such a popular mobo! ok well...

Yes! They are $260 ! lol

Corsair is just as good (if not better) than OCZ, don't worry and enjoy your new (whoop ass) motherboard ! 😀

It's not your fault if it's DDR2-800 rated at 4-4-4-12. Happens to any RAM regardless of brand.
If you happen to have the above speced RAM you can send it back to OCZ to have the SPD reflashed, fixes the problem.

Yeah, that's exactly what I ended up doing. OCZ was quite aware of this & they are sending me a new batch... in the mean time I'll just sit here waiting for more facial hair to appear. ...and this is why I've always hated mail order.
Even doe I saved a few hundred bux, dis whole experience so far sux!! It isn't worth the TROUBLE....wait maybe it is, noope, no it isn't, maybe it is, DOH!!!! Somebody shoot me!!!

I just picked up the Asus P5B vanilla and am using OCZ DDR2-800 Special Ops Edition RAM, the system is working, but the BIOS is giving me a freaking a headache (BIOS 3xx or whatever is latest, Conroe E6600), as the RAM will only work in DDR2-533 mode. I can't even save any settings as each time I start I get a "Overclock Failed" message. Any chance getting Corsair memory would fix this??????

Just to add some more information, I first thought my PSU was crap. Its an Enermax Liberty 500watt. I don't have too much in my system, X1900GT, X-Fi, 2 SATA HDD and 2 Opticals. I figured 500watt is more than enough. One of the connectors I used to connect the floppy drive didn't work with the PSU when I tried to start the computer, when I took it out and used the other cable it worked fine....could this be a faulty PSU? I am not sure as I have been running Windows for the past 3 hours without a hitch.

the RAM will only work in DDR2-533 mode
That's because you're using 1:1 ratios. Your fsb is at 266, which means your ram is working at 266MHz as well (Dual data rate pumps it up to 533)
To make your ram run at DDR2-800, your fsb needs to be 400 and the ratio at 1:1, understand? Or you can do things like a 300 fsb and run the ram at 3:4 ratios, but performance suffers when memory is out of sync.

I went into the BIOS and set the memory voltage to 2.0, thats what the spec says for the OCZ special ops editions, I then set the memory frequency to DDR2-800 and now all my BIOS problems are gone.

System is running great, I attached my new Seagate HDD to the RAID port to get the AHCI working. I wish I had bought the Deluxe version as it has RAID/AHCI on all the ports as its ICH8R, opposed to ICH8.
