[SOLVED] New build / compatibility question

Hi folks,

I've been out of PC building for quite some time and have not kept up so I am hoping you great folks can help me out. I put together a few components and ran them through userbenchmark's utility. Not sure how accurate it is. Hopefully this link works (the SSD selected is irrelevant; was only put there as a required filler): LINK

If the link doesn't work, here are the components:

AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT 12-Core 3.8 GHz Socket AM4 - LINK​

ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4/ac AM4 AMD B550 - LINK​

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) - LINK​

Anyway, their utility says that the mobo isn't compatible with the selected CPU. The mobo description states:
Supports 3rd Gen AMD AM4 Ryzen / future AMD Ryzen Processors (3000 and 4000 Series Processors)*
* Not compatible with AMD Ryzen 5 3400G and Ryzen 3 3200G

I did put the mobo through G.Skill's configurator to help select the RAM.

Alternatively, I'm considering the below mobo if the selected one above doesn't work out.

This article written in May talks about B550/CPU compatibility. As far as i know 3400G and 3200G APU's are still not compatible with B550 motherboards, but that may have changed since May.

Thanks again for the article. A follow-up: The article says that the B550 won't support older Ryzen CPUs; the chart shows that the B550 supports Ryzen 3000 series, but does not support Ryzen 3000 w/Radeon graphics which is likely the disqualifying factor in my choice, correct? If so, then would my best option be to look for either a B5550 without integrated Radeon graphics or a X570? Or should I just focus on X570 alone? Again, I appreciate the advice...very helpful.

Here is a chart with a little more detail. Ryzen 3000 CPU's are not the same as Ryzen 3000 APU's. 3000 CPU's are 7nm and the APU's are still the older 12nm cores. That's why the B550 will support the CPU's but not the APU's (Yes it is confusing). You will have to decide if an inexpensive X570 motherboard is best for you, or an older B450. It is also likely Ryzen 4000 (7nm) APU's will be released very soon but what date exactly AMD has not said. It may be worth it for you to wait until then.

Very confusing indeed. So, the Ryzen 9 3900XT says that it is 7nm, 3rd gen, which would make it a CPU and not an APU, is that correct? If so, would that, based on the chart you provided, mean it is compatible with the B550 boards?

That is correct. Any Ryzen APU will have a G at the end of it's name, like 3400G.

Yes AMD list that processor as compatible with any B550 motherboard.
