Hello!

Im thinking of upgrading my desktop thats quite old.
The parts ive checked are:
Asus sabertooth 990x R2.0 mobo
AMD FX-8350 cpu
HyperX Fury 16gb 1866mhz

So i have been watching the R9 280x cards for quite a while and almost decided to get the Sapphire R9 290x Vapor-X Tri-x ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202095 ).
Then i saw the Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X card for the exact same price ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202080 ).

Ive been googling around and 290 is obviously better in performing, but how come the price are the same?
Is the sapphire R9 290 Tri-X a good choice? It seems the 290 cards have a hard time staying cool and being unstable so im quite lost which one to get.
The budget for the graphic card is absolutely max. 300$

Oh and im using the Corsair CX500, is that enough for this build?

Thanks!

Solution
I suggest you buy the 290 definitely if it is the same price.

The tri-x is a fine card. You do need good cooling if you run CF
but it is worth it for the extra performance.

The I5 is faster which can help in multiplayer games and CPU heavy games like AC:U and FC4

Admirable
The tri-x is fine for 1 gpu but to much heat in xfire so the 280x is a better option if you want to add another one.

Honestly if you get a 990 motherboard and 8350 all of the value is gone and could have been put into a i5 plus the 8350 stinks in xfire anyway and may not even work so well with a gpu as powerful as a 290.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Oh ok which one do u recommend, is the FX-8350 that bad? In that case which i5 do you recommend?
Why does all the value go to waste, it hurts the performance that much?

Aaah i see, since i dont think ill be running crossfire will the stock fans be enough for cooling it and hows the sound level?
Ive been looking at changing to Intel as it seems at most places where i googled, they seem to be a lot better performance wise in gaming.

So this is the alternative, will this work out well?

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 Haswell Quad-Core 3.3GHz
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116991)
Mobo: Theres so many but i was checking one of these three Comparison of 3 Motherboards on newegg (link was too long)
RAM: HyperX Fury Black Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104461)
GPU: SAPPHIRE TRI-X OC 100362-2SR Radeon R9 290 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202080)

Does the Corsair CX500 that i currently have still suffice for this setup?
I have the Cooler Master Elite 430 btw, will everything fit?

If you avoid a reference card, you should be fine with reasonable case cooling.
The Sapphire 290 Tri-X is also pretty quiet as 290s go. I think they are in the 40-44 db range
although that is from memory.

I completely missed the CX500 part. That could be pushing that PSU kind of hard
