I've got a new build I put together this past weekend, and I've run into a weird issue that is making it difficult to successfully install an OS. My PC powers on just fine, shows display, lets me futz around in the bios to my heart's content, but it does not reboot properly. It'll power off and then act like it's powering on again, without display or any activity beyond the fans running and the optical drive spinning up. I have to hold the power button down for 5~ seconds to force it to turn off, but after that, it powers up just fine.
I got to the point where it was installing Windows 8, but since an OS install requires rebooting, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place right now. I'm more help-desk technical than hardware technical, and I'm pretty sure it's probably a bad connection somewhere, but I would definitely appreciate some advice on what to test next. It's a beast of a machine and right now it's pretty much a paperweight, so I'm hoping it'll be something quick that I accidentally overlooked.
Components:
Asus Rampage Extreme V motherboard
Intel Core i7-5930K
Noctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler
16gb Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 ram
EVGA GTX980 Classified 4gb x2
Crucial 500gb SSD x2
EVGA Supernova 1200 P2 power supply
