New Build - Required for Virtualisation

Hi all,

I would like to build a new desktop which is powerful enough to host around 10 VM's. The OS installed on this desktop will be VMWare ESXI.

What I require is a budget build which can handle this. If anyone has any recommendations that would be greatly appreciated.

I can build the desktop myself but not sure what hardware is best for virtualisation.

well VM's need a lot of cores and a lot of ram so not sure how you would keep that on a budget. you would need at least a quad core CPU like an I5 or I7, depending on what the VM's are going to be used for you may need at minimum 32 UP TO 64gb OF ram. i am not sure if AMD CPUs would be good for that many VM's as i do not know if they have visualization features like intel

Build would depend on what those VMs are going to be actually doing.

Ok - so I have about 8 VM's at the moment running on ESXI host on an ancient desktop.

Im gearing more towards I7 than I5 and will need 32GB Ram, however, doubt I would need a GPU depending on motherboard or extremely cheap GPU.

Wondering if someone could help in advising what components will be needed - I can then adjust budget.

Not sure for what purpose you are trying to use this for but something like this would work for personal use otherwise i would go with an actual server if this is for business with xeon processor and ecc memory.
