So I have an Asus z170 mobo and a 4 gb hdd with windows installer on it. When I try to boot from the usb it just goes to a blinking white light in the top left. It says I need 8 gb so I mounted the files on my other computer and copied them to a bigger stick. Now when I try to boot from that stick it just goes right back to BIOS. Can anyone help?

Solution
You need to use the program to turn the bigger usb memory stick into a bootable drive also, copying the files wont work I'm pretty sure.
Plug the usb stick into your pc, boot it up, go into bios, select the usb stick as boot drive and install your windows :)
Let me know if something doesn't work I'll give more detail if needed

Do I need to download a specific program to turn this big stick into a bootable drive?

That worked for getting windows to start! Now I'm getting the "CD/DVD device driver is missing" error. I found the thread on here saying to switch usb port but none of that worked. Where to go from here?

Wait did windows install or? 😛 If it installed then remove the usb flash drive, go into bios and make the hard drive that windows is installed on your main boot drive

That error he mentions is when you are at the screen to select a hard drive to install windows to.

Ah yes misread it, thought it was the black screen to insert boot drive.
"When Windows is asking for driver, just click Cancel. You will be brought back to the welcome screen. At the welcome screen, remove your USB drive, insert it back to DIFFERENT USB PORT. Click Install Now again. The installation process will be like usual.

This problem happened to all new version of updated Windows 7 installer. I think, it is due to failure of Windows installer to remain its detection to the USB drive. It lost the connection, and became confused, don't know where to find the USB drive it used to read before.

When we re-insert the USB drive, Windows installer will detect the USB drive back, and continue like usual. "

I already tried switching around the ports, still giving me the same message. I could just be doing it at the wrong time. Are there settings I need to change in the bios?

So when I click cancel it just restarts instead of giving me the option to install again. I've tried changing the ports and still same message. I tried updating the bios from usb and it said it wasnt a correct bios file or something. I'm kinda at a loss with windows 7 and considering 10 so i can just get it going, but don't want to spend the money on another OS. What should I do?
