Question New build

Quite reasonable. Not sure I understand the 2 2TB drives though, generally better to go bigger since you have limited M.2 slots.

Pretty close to the top in terms of GPU performance. Only the 4070Ti Super, 4080/Super, 7900XTX and the 4090 are significantly better. Nvidia cards do better with upscaling and ray tracing, but AMD gives comparable performance in traditional rasterization.

My thoughts:

Excellent gaming performance with a x3d processor.
The offset is that any other performance would be better with the base 7700x

AIO coolers do not last forever. Plan on replacing it in about 5 years.

A good air cooler will do the job at half the price.

A single 4tb m.2 device will cost the same. But space3 management is simpler with a single C drive.

Switched out the monitor, thanks for the list! Also consolidated the storage into a single 4TB drive.

The goal is to get near top tier performance without shelling out 2k+ on a 4090.

I like having split drives, as Windows can be on one, while games and such can be on the other. If one dies, you don't lose everything. 980 pro's are nice but overpriced for a gaing rig. Case doesn't come with many fans, you would need to buy more. Cooler is overpriced. Headset seems overly expensive, but I am also not an audiophile, so not much more I can say on that. For around $50 more, you could get an even faster build. Could save a bit more, on GPU, but I chose one to color match with.

I use a P3 Plus in my HTPC, it isn't the fastest drive out there, but it is certainly good enough. You could get a 1TB PCIe 4.0 dram cache drive for just the OS and still keep the 4TB. Only you know how much storage you need. P5 Plus, Sabrent Rocket 4.0 Plus, Samsung 980 Pro or 990 Pro, Kingston KC3000 I've heard good things about.

2 SSDs in the system is no back up, though. External storage in the form of either loose hard drive (what I do), a normally enclosed external drive, or a NAS is better. I occasionally plug in a 3TB hard drive and back up my 2TB SSD. Though that system only has games on it, no big loss if it dies.

7900XTX is a choice, but I would just go to the 4070 Ti Super at that point.

Roughly on par with the 7900XT in rasterization, and faster with ray tracing. Or a match in ray-tracing with the 7900XTX for less, but behind in pure rasterization. Uses a little less power too.

I've made some more changes, I've gone back to split drives because I do like having my OS on its own drive. Realized I probably don't need that much storage so I got two smaller, higher quality drives.

Headphones are gone because they don't actually matter, I just put them there.

Personally I don't play many games that use ray tracing at the moment...so I think I'll benefit more from the faster rasterization and up the 7900 XT to a 7900 XTX. Do you think the 7800X3D and 7900 XTX is a good pairing?
