New computer or new graphic card?

Hi, I have a 4 year old-ish computer, and I am thinking about upgrading it a bit to be able to handle more recent games. In the best case scenario, I would only change my GTX480 for a GTX970. I am kinda wondering if the rest of my rig would drag the perf down, in which case I pretty much need to get a new computer.

I'm not looking for multi monitors setup or 4K. I only need some decent image quality in 1080p resolution. Also, I'm trying to get the most bang for the buck.

Here's what I have:

Intel Core i7 930 Quad Core LGA1366 2.8GHZ 8MB L3 Cache
ASUS P6X58D-E X58
EVGA Supernova 1000 P2 1000W 80 Plus Platinum
Corsair XMS3 CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 12GB DDR3
GeForce GTX 480 700MHZ 1536MB GDDR5

Thanks.

Go ahead and upgrade your GPU. There is no need to buy a whole new computer as the rest of your build is perfectly fine. Your processor is fairly old and under powered but I definitely don't foresee it as being a major bottleneck.

I was hesitating between Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 gaming and EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0. I think they are pretty similar now it's just a matter of price. EVGA is a bit more expensive... Do you see any other differences?

OC my cpu is a good idea, i never thought of it.

Both are excellent cards but my vote goes to the G1 Gaming. Check out Jayz' video about it.

G1 Gaming it is then! It's a damn good looking card! Do you think I can OC this baby with my current rig and expect a smooth run?

Yes, as long as you OC your CPU.
