New CPU for DX12

Hey guys,

With Windows 10 about to launch, I've been looking into DX12. It seems it may well be a brilliant performance increasing API. However, apparently only 4th gen or newer intel CPUs will support DX12.

"we are working closely with all of our hardware partners to help ensure that most modern PC gaming hardware will work well with DirectX12, including; nVidia’s Maxwell, Kepler and Fermi-based GPUs and Intel’s 4th generation (and newer) Core processors"

I currently still run on an overclocked i5-2500k that has served me faithfully for the last 4 years.

Now, I'm not fully clued up on APIs or the way they interact with CPUs, but does this mean that in order to see any benefit from DX12, you would NEED a 4th gen+ intel CPU?

What's everyone's thoughts?

That's correct.

Ah, so what they meant by that statement was compatibility with the inbuilt GPU's of 4th gen+, not the CPUs themselves?

That's correct.
