Dear Peeps,

Ive been wanting to upgrade my setup now for a while.
This is my setup:
Asus Rog Maximus 9 Extreme Gaming (with cpu block)
i5 7600K
32GB ram
Asus Rog GTX 1080Ti

Yet i experiance lag and i think my cpu is bottlenecking my setup.
Now i wanted to upgrade or Overclock.
I work in the IT but i never did and overclock. So i kinda dont wanna try it.

My whole pc is custom watercooled and build for gaming and Streaming.

I wonder what would be the best option here for me.

Hope to hear soon from you!

Solution
Would it give alot more performance?

You did really well on the overclock.
I think you have a very good chip to do 5.0.

I might have said doubtful for a 7700K with 8 threads, but I found this test:
https://www.legitreviews.com/pubg-cpu-core-benchmarks-many-cores-need_197719
It shows improvement from 4 threads to 6 of perhaps 20%.

I also found lots of articles on how to optimize the game.
I think you might do well to search there for ideas.
How much do you really need max settings?

I would not look too much at utilization, thinking that 100% of either cpu or gpu was a good thing.
If you want a responsive system, you need an excess of resources.
Running at 70% might be right.
You most definitely would benefit from an overclock.
Overclock is a bit of a misnomer these days.
It consists mainly of increasing the default multiplier from the base 38 to a higher number.
How high depends on your luck in getting a good chip.
As of 6/19/17
What percent of samples can get an overclock
at a vcore around 1.4v.
I5-7600K
4.9 72%
5.0 52%
5.1 27%
5.2 16%
5.3 samples exist, unknown % of occurrence

There are complex optimal ways to go about it if you want the max possible.
But, for a simple dip into the waters, here is how.
Install cpu-Z and HWmonitor.
Go into the bios and set the all core multiplier to a higher number. Start with 39.
Leave all voltages on auto.
Run the simple cpu-Z stress test and watch the vcore and temperatures.
You want vcore to be 1.35v or less, and the temperature to be at 85c. or less.
Then, gradually increase the multiplier.

when you reach your limit, implement speedstep if you have not yet done so.
That will reduce the voltage and multiplier when the cpu has little to do.

Well im back.
Cpu is running at 5.0ghz and still bottlenecking my system.
I tried to run PUBG on max settings.
CPU runs at 100% with 79 degrees Celcius.
Yes PUBG is not a very good game to test it with. But still it seems that my system doesnt like to run smoothly.

My 1080ti runs at 70% When im going max settings on different games. And my CPU already starts to run at 90% - 100% when im in the lobby and not even in the game yet.
So i kinda dont know what to do anymore!

Solution
Define alot. The 7700k is about the same gaming performance as the Ryzen 3600(X) I think except in the one or two titles that use more than 4c/8t

You chose the wrong chipset to go all out on a motherboard
Sadly yes. I chose the wrong mobo. I kinda wanted an AM4 socket. Wich gives me way more potential to change things out. But my build is a Case Mod. And everything is watercooled. And this mobo came with a build in CPU block so i tought ey lets just do it why not.
Now i regret my decision.

I am gonna look for a 7700k and overclock it to 5.2 of 5.0ghz. Thankyou for the help!
