right i'm thinking of upgrading my CPU and mother board.
at the minute my PC specs are :

CPU : AMD A8-5600K
Motherboard : MSI FM2-A55M-E33
GPU : EVGA GEEFORCE GTX 950
Power : EVGA 500W 80Plus

What are my best options for around 150 English pounds

So would my DDR3 memory not work at all in that??

No, Skylake doesn't officially support DDR3, while you can get some motheboards that support both, you may do the CPU some harm in the long run, so it's at your own risk really.

Yeh better to be safe then sorry, right thanks for that I think I will take you addvise and get the i3 mobo and new ram cheers

Even then the few motherboards that are z170 chipsets that support ddr3 only support ddr3l which is a low voltage version of ddr3 and unless you have that specific type of memory chances are low your pre-existing ram will work with the new tech.
