Right the basics my current pc.

400w PSU
Abit i45-cv Motherboard with bios 10 and latest drivers
Celeron175 @3.06Ghz Never OC'ed
nVidia 8400gs GPU
250 Sata 2 HDD With Vista Ultimate 32bit
3 Gig Ram
3x80mm fans, 1x120mm Fan
Stock Intel Heatsink + Fan
And a Uv Neon Tube

So the problem is i checked abit site yes my mobo can support E6600 CPU and i got the right Bios. So i bought a shiny new CPU,
Put it in mobo posted loaded up till just befour desktop and Blamo Blue Screen Of Death for abot half a second then it restarted itself so got no idea what the bsod said where have i gone wrong this has never happened befour?

you mean reset the CMOS by placeing the jumper in position 2-3 then after 30 sec back to 1-2 yeah tried that if you mean reset the acutal Bios wouldnt know how to

i tried going into setup and loaded the defauld setup but still no joy...thinking it could be that me PSU isnt up to scratch maybe.

Right yeah tried that befour mate still not working, wondered if i put a new formatted hard drive in up the voltage on the cpu and reset the cmos do you rekon that would work like i said befour could be my PSU not up to scratch or could it be that its a stock intel Heatsink + Fan?

Things I would do:

Double check the seating of the CPU heatsink.
Double check the thermal past distribution

Double check all your power connection - fans, drives and anything else.

Does your 8400 require power?
Make sure all your fans, espeically your CPU fan is running.

Can you get into the bios?
Like the other guy said, reset the cmos.

I get the feeling you tried to boot to the old OS install. If so, put in the XP CD and format and install it fresh. Let me know if you need to save data on the drive.

lucky my 8400 does require extra power can get in to the bios no trouble order a new heatsink fan and thermal paste off ebay should be here in next couple of day hopeful that will cure it gonna pre load format a small HDD 80 gig to install vista when i try again and will reset the cmos what about increaseing the voltage to the cpu will that help say anout 0.02 volts?

Yeah, check the temps in BIOS and post them. I hope you didn't buy another HS with the push pins, you should have asked here before you bought it. I don't think temps are causing your problems. When it overheats it throttles and then at a higher temp it shuts down completely not blue screens. You should not need to raise the Vcore at stock settings. I imagine you set the RAM voltage to manufacturer's spec.

I just noticed that you tried to boot to the CD and it failed.

Download Ultimate Boot CD and run memtest86+ at least one full pass. You will need to burn the ISO to CD with ISO Recorder or other ISO burning software. If it fails, then test each stick separately.

tried both stick so whould be suprised if that is the problem but it could be on my celeron they are 534 on the e6600 there 667 so will try that as well and luck its not the push pin hsf i dont think.

What speed is the RAM rated to run at? That's probably your problem. At the minimum I bet you'll have to up the RAM voltage to get it stable at 667. I would post the exact model of RAM you're running. We need a little more than "3 Gig Ram". :)

45C idle Tcase shown in BIOS is way way too high for that processor. I don't know if you are hitting prochot# on boot but your HS definitely is not seated properly. No question about it.

right tried again got to window BSOD so retried in safe mode no prblem restarted again got desktop for about 3 mins then BSOD restarted AGAIN been on for 5 mins now after explorer restarted itself twice

im starting to get the feeling it might be a drivers problem anyway to find out which one it is? oh and my download sped which isnormally fast 10mps seems to be going like a grannie could that be connected?
