So, im wanting to upgrade some components on my PC. Not just for games but for video and other multitasking. Not professional by any means, just needed something beefier. Some games are taxing my CPU too much, giving me some problems. Also bad porting or general game bugs making things harder. Ram is something iv needed for awhile, i know for videos it would help. Probably going to need a decent motherboard as well, so i was hoping to get some advice on what to upgrade to. PC specs are as follows

CPU: Intel Core i5 4690K Haswell 4th Gen
Motherboard: Gigabyte H81M - S2H
RAM: DDR3 8Gbs Dual Chan 1596 mhz
GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 6gb Superclocked
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250 Gb SATA iii storage
HDD: 1tb Unsure of details
PWR: EVGA 650W Gold Series
LCD: ASUS 60hz 1080P
OS: Windows 10 unsure of Pro x64 both drives

Upgrade your CPU, MB and RAM. You should have mentioned a budget though.

My fave CPUs for gaming and multitasking are the new Intel Coffee Lake 8700k and 8600k, but unfortunately due to limited availability still, they are going for more than their $359 and $259 MSRPs.

Add 16GB RAM and most any decent Z370 MB, which start at about $110, and you're good to go.

Budget wise around 500-600ish is the most i want to pay for these components. I know for medium and low level stuff i can get away with what i have, just wanted to push it to that next level. Not sure if any good deals are out there for this season. Ram is looking slim for my current board, was also considering an overclock on current CPU to possibly get more... might kill it though as its a 3 year old PC. One game in particular is giving me some issues, pretty sure CPU and RAM is bottleneck. Forza Horizon 3 peaks my CPU 100% multiple times during sessions, crashes to desktop. If you could point me in the right direction for some good deals that would be swell.

Like I said, you can get a Z370 MB for $110, add another $150-$160 for decent high speed DDR4, and you'd have $330 left for a 8600k and cooler, which is easily enough since even at over MSRP pricing the 8600k is going for $280. A Cryorig H7 can be had for under $30.

Thanks for your help, also, should i get the i7 instead, more money sure but i may also want to future proof this thing. Another thing, do you think an overclock on the current i5 will actually do much to improve my performance?

If you go for the 8700k, I would wait until prices come down. It's $420 right now.

An OC on your current CPU will net only a slight performance gain unless you spend a ton on a custom water cooling loop, which I don't advise.

Any way of gaging when things might drop in price, think the holiday seasons will bring down any prices or just waiting for the next big thing to come around to compete with them. One more thing, will a current Gen i5 with 6 cores be decent for gaming? I might be torn here, i want the extra power but if its not needed then i would prefer to save the money. I keep hearing all the hype around ryzens and i7 CPU's and it gets me divided on what to choose. Now the final thing id like to discuss is, where can i go to nerd out and talk to others about PC specs. Any chat rooms or cool forums to visit for hashing it out about tech? Sorry, that one was random.
