New Custom Pc Freezes

I built this pc a week ago and have had a freezing problem when running it or a few minutes into gaming. I have read through other threads on this issue and most of them just say it sounds like a temps problem but i monitor my temps with nzxt cam and the temps never go over 50 when this problem happens, i have ran memtest and that didnt make the system freeze. I have also ran some gpu benchmarks to stress it and that did not cause a freeze. i have also tested my hdd's. I have not overclocked this build yet. I tried to update some drivers but I am not sure if i got them all or if that could be the problem. Any reply is appreciated

cpu: i5 6600k
mobo: msi z170a sli
psu: rosewill glacier 850w
Gpu: msi r9 390x 8gb
cpu fan: Cryorig h7
ram: gskill ripgaw v 3000 16gb (2x8)
bootdrive: silicon Power Slim S55 2.5" 240GB
hdd: 2 wd black 2tb

Have you tried reinstalling windows? Make sure you update all the drivers and do all of the windows updates.

i did do a clean install. two days ago.

Freezes in games are usually GPU/CPU temps are too high, PSU isn't up to snuff, or GPU driver version just aren't working well w/ your system. Also, you mentioned the latest drivers. Do you have the latest UEFI version installed for your motherboard? Also, you may want to try your RAM at stock 2133 instead of XMP 3000. Even though memtest passed, you're still OCing the IMC in your CPU when running at 3000. Might be worth a shot. How long does it take on average for the freezes to occur? If it's within a few minutes, you may want to try running in Safe Mode for awhile to see what happens too.

i tried running the ram at stock speeds and that didnt change anything. ill have to check the uefi when i get home. i will also try safe mode. as of time it is anywhere from right away to an hour or so. in gaming usually minutes

If safe mode does not help, I would then look at the power supply. I don't see any reviews of the unit you have, and Andyson has a mix of units. Unless someone else can verify the quality of the PSU, I would take that as the prime suspect.

i ran in safe mode for a while and couldnt get it to freeze up. i couldnt figure anything out on the uefi. How do i check that.

Either looking in the UEFI itself or using CPU-Z software in Windows will tell you which version you have. You can then reference this to latest version on MSI site. If safe mode runs fine with no freezes, it's going to be a software or driver problem most likely. Any info in Event Viewer?

the bios is up to date with what the msi site says. event viewer has the event 41, event 6008, event 7031, and event 10010.

He means proper reviews by the likes of Anandtech, Jonnyguru, etc who use load-bearing equipment to test a power supply across all stress ranges.

At any rate, if safe mode produces no crashes, even when gaming, then the fault lies with windows/ drivers.

I ran that then restarted. I ran a game after booting back up and it froze just like normal.

Just for something try. Maybe remove your R9 390X and try onboard GPU. This would at least narrow down the GPU itself or AMD driver as a cause. I've had a 6990 in the past work fine in safe mode, but due to odd driver issues(I did get corrected) I had hardlocks,reboots, and strange colors going on a normal boot. At first I thought it was the card, as it was brand new. However, the RMA replacement, also new, did the same thing. After getting driver issue sorted, it ran fine no problem.

i dont think my mobo supports on board gpu. i might be wrong though

You are correct, you don't have onboard GPU capabilities. I didn't realize this either until you posted the link. I'm guessing you don't have a spare cheapo GPU to try. Have you had an actual BSODs or just hardlocks? Does the system freeze/crash doing anything specific such as web browsing, or just sitting on the desktop idling?
