New custom PC makes crackling noises

So, a few weeks ago I built a gaming PC using all new parts, but all of a sudden I am hearing a crackling sound coming from the back. It's loudest on startup, but never seems to go away and is driving me crazy. I've never noticed it before, but when I was installing a game, it became incredibly loud and worrying. Any ideas? Because I don't think it's ever done this before.

Hi there _Joe_D_,

Unfortunately, there's a chance that your HDD is making these noises.(when stressing during boot and installations)
My suggestion would be to back up the data stored on the drive until you sort this out.
After that, you can open up the case and try to localize where the sound comes from. You can even take the drive out -> power the system on and see if the issue persists. Of course, it will not boot but we need to see if the HDD is causing this.
Apart from that, you can attach the drive with different cables(both SATA and power ones) to another SATA port. It may be a good idea to test it with some of these as well: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

I do have an HDD, could it be caused by vibrations or movement? Because my case came with shelves to slot it in, but it slides in and out and isn't screwed down, could this be the problem? Thanks a lot!

Ok, so I have the PC opened up and have double checked that very thing is plugged in tightly, the power and reset pins are a little bit out but there's little I can do there. The HDD although can be pulled in and out, seems fairly sturdy. It can be moved up and down a little but I'm wondering whether this noise could come from that when it has only just started occurring. I'd like to double check it is the HDD, would you recommend running without the side panel?
EDIT: ok, I've also realised that the noise is coming from the back of the machine, so can't be the HDD

Right, I've been stupid here, please forgive. I only took one panel off for all this work, so the sound was being reflected across the computer. I took the other panel off and did what you said Turkey3_Scratch with the toilet role tube, and discovered it WAS the HDD. Thanks D_Know_WD for that. It is the vibrations which makes the noise which explains why after installing 600gb of games it is only NOW making a noise. I will find a way of fastening it to the case before I use again to prevent damage. Any suggestions? I can probably find stuff myself but you guys seem to know a lot.

You don't understand how it works. Pull out a carrier from the enclosure, spread it to insert the HDD and make sure that all 4 pins (2 on each side) snap into a screw hole. on the HDD sides Then slide the carrier back in place. Believe me, the hard disk won't move.
