what kind of games do you play ? i was on windows xp only and i couldnt play my game , so i went and bought a windows vista and its awesome , it plays my game grt , and its very fast at loading , i really like everything about windows vista except all the dam updating , which i usually have no idea if i should let it update or not !

Vista all the way. Home premium will do fine, thats what i use and i play hundreds of games, never once had a problem. I got a 64 bit system and 8G ram, 560G HD

Vista Home Premium, as a short answer. XP is still more reliable in my opinion, but they're stopping support for it in 2014 :) it does seem a long time away but its still something to consider. So yeah, Vista.

If you have two choices "VISTA or XP" I recommend avoiding "VISTA" like the plague and go with "XP".
Windows 7 is available and it works a LOT better then vista.

I promise you if you get vista you will be very disappointed.

Vista has more bugs then a jungle.

DX 10 is ideal for modern games.

Did you look at the date of that post? Windows 7 was not an option when the question was posed. Besides, there is nothing wrong with Vista anyway. 😛

I'll have to re-read this thread and see if Winrot actually got Vista or waited until Win 7. I had absolutely no issues with Vista... it ran beautifully for me on every machine I tried it on. Mind you, I didn't start off with a lot of preconceptions based on third-hand internet information... I actually used the OS when it was still in the RC stage and upgraded when I could afford the Ultimate upgrade. The biggest reason I upgraded to 7 was I simply could not resist the pre-order discounts. If not for those, I might still be using Vista.

Guys give it up this is a forever old thread 😛. Windows 7 is out and if you get pro you can use that cool software to make anything run on 7 😛. Case closed, Vista sucked at the time of the posting so to answer the question for the time period, go XP. Now you should go 7 :).
