I just bought a Radeon HD 4870 and my PSU has only one PCIE x6 connector

This is my PSU :

Inter-Tech Energon 550W

1 x 6pin PCIE
4 x SATA
4 x Molex
1 x Floppy
1 x 4+4pin EPS12V

Rail:

Quad rail (18A/18A/18A/18A)

I know I need an adapter to get one more 6pin PCIE, but my thing is that I've seen that there are single molex and dual molex to 6x pin PCIE, and a friend of mine gave me a SINGLE molex to 6x pin PCIE.
Will it work with a single molex to 6x pin PCIE or I need a dual molex to 6x pin PCIE for my graphic card to work ?

Thanks

Hello !

This is what AMD recommends for the HD 4870: "500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode) "

Having that in mind, the single-molex to PCIe 6x connector would need to draw a maximum of 6.25 amps (75W / 12V). If the rail it will be drawing power from is not close to reaching 18A, then you have nothing to fear.

However, if your 4 molex connectors are all on the same rail, and that 3 of them are used and draw a lot of power, then you might have a problem and exceed the 18A limit.

I hope that answered your question,

I have no optic units, only one HDD, so, only 2 molex connectors will be in use.

Then go ahead with the single-molex. You have nothing to worry about.
