I have a vostro 400 and I had a nvidia geforce 9400 gt and all was good. Today I got a nvidia geforce gt 240 from a friend and I replaced my old card with this new one and all I got was a blank screen. From what I can tell the computer doesn't even see the graphic's card. I even tried to install the latest driver for it and it said that there was no compatible device for it to work with.

It would help if you ran through a checklist to ensure that it is solely user-error rather than in your hardware or software.

Are you sure your PSU can handle this card along with your other components

If so, check to see if your processor supports as many PCI-E lanes as you are using on your motherboard, and perhaps try booting into BIOS with just your GPU on your board to see if this is the case.

If neither of those help in finding a solution, I would recommend testing the card in your friend's setup to see if his PC will recognize it.

If none of the above works, I would say that you have yourself a shiny paperweight. On a serious note, I would try contacting the manufacturer or even looking around to see if anyone else is having similar problems.

Both cards have the same power requirement. I went into the BIOS and it didn't recognize it. I don't have anyone who's will let me try it on their computer.
