I have built a couple of Vintage gaming systems, 486, PIII, Pentium 4 and I run into this problem where some graphics cards display the BIOS screen but go black when booting. I'm using either a vga with an HDMI adapter or DVI to HDMI. Some cards/Motherboard combo's have worked, but others don't. Many more of my old Graphics cards do not work than do. I'm wondering if something isn't changing like resolution or frequency. Maybe even something in my monitor isn't turning it off. Has anyone had this problem, and if you have would you tell me what your solution was? Thanks.

Even back then mobos had the option to enable the GPU on boot or the chipset graphics, second thing is that it can be that the dual monitor setting is saved on the GPU itself and that you have to change it by running the drivers.
