New Guy in Town!

I just wanted to say hi to all of my fellow enthusiasts here. I've been building computers for about 3 years now. Started with Pent 4 3.0Ghz 6800GTOC and 2 GB of ram... I quickly moved it up and threw on a Koolance liquid cooling kit for both my CPU and my video card.
Around December I decided it was time to upgrade my platform. I Started with the eVGA 680i (122-ck-nf68) which was their top line 680i at the time. got a Pent D 930 (3.0ghz), 2 x 1GB Patriot LL Extreme PC6400 and upgraded my vid card to a Geforce 7950GT OC from BFG.
Again, I've upgraded... The Pent D was a mistake, yes it did run everything I wanted however the response rates were terrible even at 3.7+Ghz. I purchased a Pent Core 2 Duo 6700@2.66Ghz and an additional 2 x 1GB of Patriot LL Extreme PC6400. Ultimately I plan on purchasing 2 8800GTX's for SLI for some extreme performance via a projector and other intensive processing.

I hope to learn a lot about overclocking from you guys and hopefully I can teach some with my extensive liquid cooling/air cooling setups I've had in the past.

Well, a belated hello to you too. I would agree that the PD was a mistake! Too bad you weren't the these forums yet, we could have saved you the trouble! I hope you can provide some new ideas and helpful information to some of the other new members who are building their first computer. Welcome to the forums!

I wouldn't have thought you would need all the graphics power of an SLI'd 8800GTX setup to run games on a projector. Don't they all run at low resolutions? I was under the impression that SLI 8800's or even a single 8800 GTX is only really beneficial when running at 1600 + resolutions.

Well, I do plan to run at high resolutions... thats why I need the Dual 8800 for SLI.

it all depends on the projector and how many hes running ultimatly i would love to go the 3 x 1280x768 3lcd projector route. but i dont have money or a room big enough to showcase that but on a side note, most projectors aren't that high in resolution, and are pretty darn expensive when they are.

Depends on what you consider 'expensive' - projectorpeople.com has a 1920 x 1080 Epson Home Cinema 1080 for $2700, about the price you'd pay for a decent 45" LCD flatscreen HDTV. Actually $2400 since there's a rebate going on.

@OP - Welcome, and hope your PSU can handle 2 8800GTX's I build a QX6700 system a few months back, with the intention of going SLI, but so far haven't done so. I can see the need however since I run on a large monitor at 1920 x 1200.

My thoughts exactly since I'm buying a house under construction and the builder is finishing the basement incl. a "media room" . 1200 lumens seems a bit dim however - wish the brighter models weren't double to quadruple the price...
