Hi all!
I have a 2TB WD20EZRX WD Green Desktop Hard Drive. It's brand new. I connected it to my system and initialized it by Disk Management on MBR. It got initialized, but the Disk Manager did not show Logical Partition or etc.
I tried to reinitialize it and it wasn't able to reinitialize giving a Cyclic Redundancy Error. I treid manually via DiskPart Utility and still it didn't work.
I tried to load it in Linux (Ubuntu Live 14.04) via fdisk and it gave and IO error. The HardDrive is brand new, what could be the reason of such failure?

Regards

I think when you initialized the drive you should have chosen "GPT" instead of "MBR"...

When you initialized the disk GUID partition table (GPT) should have been already selected by default, you would have had to select "MBR" manually and you should left it in the default setting of GUID partition table (GPT)...

Below is a MS support article on the subject...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2581408

You need to start over but this time when you initialize the disk choose GUID partition table (GPT)...That is likely going your best bet...

Below is a good YT video that gives you the step by step instruction on how to delete all partitions and contents on the drive and initialize it properly in the Windows disk management utility...
I tried the above and it passed all the checks with 0 blocks.
The thing is I can return. I got this from Germany via a friend. He paid the money and sent it to me in Pakistan/Asia. Sending it back is not an option as my friend was visiting Germany and sending it back to the company will cost me more then the HDD itself. So as my money is basically wasted, I have no problem opening up the drive or doing something that would void the warranty.
So any suggestion regarding this would help. Like changing the board, etc.

Regards

You know what? you maybe lack of knowledge that 2TB only works for some MotherBoards that can be compatible.. and can only recognized 500GB to 1TB..
is your MotherBoard is a latest Model? try to think of it.. ok? and also check your operating System.. for some issues regarding with that hard drive.. thanks anyway.. 😀 hope it clears your mind.. and Hope it HElps.. Happy To HElp 😀

There is also the article in the below link that may help if none of the above works...It appears to work for those that have tried it...
