Hey guys. Last year I directed my friend who was in need of some advice on his first real gaming build to this forum, and it turned out really well. Well, now it's my turn!

I've been out of the technological loop for quite some time, so I have no clue what the best new chipsets are or the best for the price, etc. I will try my best to give you a realistic view of what I want to achieve with my somewhat low budget, and hopefully you all can help me make it happen.

Just to clarify, I already own the intel 4790k chip, which I bought for $350 when it first came out. I now regret it, because the price dropped. I couldn't finish my build due to financial issues at the time.

I want to play games. And I don't want to play on anything under high settings. In fact, I would love to max out as many games as possible, within reason, using the correct balance of hardware for my build. Unfortunately I understand I wont be able to max everything on such a low budget. I just want to get the most out of my dollar.

Approximate Purchase Date: Between now and February. Probably this month
Budget Range: $1,000 -$350 already spent = Final budget of $650

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Modern games, in particular, I want to play and I would love to max out on GTA V if possible. My 2nd priority is to use the PC as a media player for movies,(Bluray), and then finally music production (FL studio) and general web surfing (perhaps an SSD or Ram disk to speed up browser load times?)

Are you buying a monitor: Unfortunately, I have no monitor, and unfortunately I cannot afford one right now. I will be looking to get a Benq or Asus EVO monitor at a later time for the purpose of a no/low input delay gaming monitor. I go to tournaments and play fighting games competitively, and I have been forced to use a tube tv to achieve a 0 frame input delay setting for fighting games, because the HD post processing just adds onto the input lag.

Parts to Upgrade: I've already got the Intel 4790k, but that's about it
Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg

Location: Bradenton FL, United States, 34207

Parts Preferences: I have no manufacturer preference except for a slight bias against ATI Radeon GPU's due to horrific past experience with multiple 4870's burning up back in 2009. May consider Radeon again however.

Overclocking: Maybe. Not necessary

SLI or Crossfire: Because of my budget, I am more inclined to pump as much $ into a single gpu as possible, but if someone can manage an sli or crossfire build, be my guest.
Your Monitor Resolution: N/A, looking to acquire a BenQ monitor as soon as possible.

Additional Comments: No need to look any sort of way, I dont care about a window or anything, I just want it to do its duty, perform well, and get as much out of it as I can for my ridiculously low budget.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I am in need of an actual desktop PC for a multitude of reasons. Although gaming is a luxury nowadays, it is still a driving factor. I would never dish out 1k to browse youtube and check my email. I produce music in FL studio, and I need to be able to run multiple VST's at one time with no slowdowns. I watch netflix, would like to have a Bluray player, would love to have an SSD, but I suppose its not necessary. Basically I would like to see how close I can get to these expectations given the budget or if it is even possible. Thanks again.

You don't have a lot of room left in your budget. To get a nice GTX 970 that would use up most of your budget right there and you don't have the motherboard or RAM. Honestly you can go super cheap at this point but with the processor you have, it kinda defeats the purpose. I think i would try to save up a bit more and try for something like:

You can go with a cheaper video card by about $100 if you go with the Gtx 770 and you can go with a cheaper motherboard by about $50 if you get a z87 but it would need a BIOS update. Once again i think you would be better off saving up some more money.

Thanks. Yeah I figured as much. I should mention that I WILL exhaust the $650 on an incomplete build, and will wait patiently for some more funds to come my way to finalize. As I did when i bought the 4790k. Although I get criticized for not waiting by my peers due to price drops.

Exactly

Well, if you're ok with an incomplete build, then I'm going to assume you're ok with a technically complete build, even if it's not the final build. With $650 left, you should be able to get everything you need, except a sweet GPU. Lucky for you and annoying for me - the 4790k has onboard graphics, so you don't need a GPU to setup your system, you can save for it and buy something when the time/price/bank is right. You can invest in water cooling, fast ass RAM, SSD, peripherals. It's that, or get a $300 GPU and go middle of the road parts all the way thru. Personally we're in kinda the same boat, I just haven't bought the processor, and I have alot of the parts I need, like a case, PSU, monitors etc. I'm thinking I want the ASUS maximus vii hero for mobo, minimum sabertooth but prbly hero (more PCIe lanes for PCIe SSD, altho i'm not sure how that works yet) it's probably around $200 USD or less (i live in Canada). RAM i haven't decided on, tho 1866 cas 9 minimum. $80-200 depending what u get. A good SSD and tax/shipping should eat the rest. I'm hawking over black friday pre-sales all the way thru to cyber monday, might even leave the ssd til boxing day.
