I am replacing my old i7 7700k because I thought it might be defective, it worked fine in my asus z170-a. So now I put in the new CPU which is the exact same as the one I used and now my computer won't boot, all the lights and fans come on but screen stays black, I also put my old CPU back in and same problem help

Overheating really bad no matter what I did so I wanted to try a different one since my previous CPU had no problem, that's not what's the problem and honestly is irrelevant atm

just trying to make sense of your post is all--and overheating really bad isnt my idea of working fine

its hard to help some one if you cant understand what they are trying to convey

so you have a z170-a?

or you are putting the 7700k in a different motherboard?

and how hot are we talking?

the 7700k certainly runs hotter than my 6600k did even if at the same speed and voltage

plus has a habit of sudden fast temperature spikes which the 6600k didnt

Yes I'm trying to put the same version CPU in to the same computer with asus z170-a. It was going over 100 and I wanted to see if a new CPU would help, it was working fine last night I turned it off woke up today replaced it with the new CPU and now it won't boot with either

Supernova evga gold + 650w and it was working fine my bios was updated just went in to replace it today with the same exact CPU and it won't boot and won't boot with the old one either now

Everything "was working fine" is always true until it doesn't.

Any beeps?
Does the power turn on at all?
Does it start then stop?
Are you seeing any signs at all that it's trying to start?
Is the PSU switched off on the back?
Is your power strip working?

I know these sound like dumb questions but just running through a basic checklist.

in the bottom left are those bent slightly?

over 100c?

not 100f?

sorry for obvious questions but sometimes have to start with those

if over 100c then i would say the cooler wasnt mounted right or way too much thermal paste or none at all

and if neither will post now and the 4/8 pin is connected fully

i agree with staplergun that a bent pin/pins is likely and a good quality photo of the socket would really help

http://imgur.com/a/PSuy1 Idunno if the link worked before, and the computer turns on it just doesn't display anything I should make clear, I tried all the ports for display, my graphics card and my onboard and I get no signal, I tried reseating ram and nothing and everything is plugged in, fans move on everything just nothing displays on screen

Yes those are bent. That could very well be your issue. Shorting pins.

Use a very thin credit card and GENTLY attempt to realign the pins following the direction of the pins arms.

Look up a video real fast to get a visual idea. Again be gentle because you could just as easily rip the pins out.

can straighten pins--and luckily those dont look too bad

need

good light

steady hand

good eyesight or magnifying glass

a very fine needle

or the very smallest watchmakers screwdriver

or the finest tip tweezers

main thing is make sure whichever you use is small enough for the job or you can end up bending surrounding pins
