New i7 NVIDIA Build Questions

I am looking into building a very high end Intel Core i7 x6 Build. Listed are the Parts I have chosen, Questions and concerns will follow the list.

- I am posting for 2 purposes. The first is to ensure part compatability, fairly sure after 7 Years of building PC's I have it right but it never hurts to double check.

- The second is to address concerns over the Motherboard. I am very unhappy with the price but it seems this is the only board I can find with 3X PCI-E 16X. I have been using AMD/ATI builds for the past 6 years due to the pricing differences between the systems. USB 3.0 is a plus to me, mainly due to wanting to build a PC and leave it be. I plan to use NVIDIA Surround because from what I have heard, it is much more smooth compared to my current Eyefinity Setup (Horrible V-Sync Issues in some games that i never could get resolved.

Of course if anyone would like to suggest alternative parts that are cheaper, I will definitely look into it.

That's easy. Switch to Sandy Bridge and forget Gulftown, it's not worth it. You REALLY don't need it.

Admittedly My build is over kill, does the i7 6 core really not offer much of a benefit?

Off the top of your head (mostly to save me time) do you have a link to any bench marks?

Sample build for you:

Mobo: Asus P8Z68-V Pro

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K or Core i7-2600K

RAM: G.Skill or Corsair 2x4GB (No triple channel on new chipsets, and not needed)

GPU: Keep the GTX 580 if you want, or find something that'll satisfy your performance requirements... that's not the primary concern here. (And pick Asus or MSI one, though Gigabyte is fine, too), and do you REALLY need 3-way SLI? All games I've seen so far are shredded by normal CF/SLI of the GPUs that are on the same level as the 580.

PSU: Adjust in accordance with GPUs wanted and make sure it's modular.

And these 3X PCI-E 16X... you don't need them. Performance losses are minimal with x8 setup.

EDIT: And that's Core i7-990X, which is a bit faster than the 980 you chose.

Looks like I will be going Sandy Bridge. I have been back and forth with the 16x slots. I Have read that the performance loss is non existent and others saying you definitely see what your missing. Will 2 580's run 5760 X 1080 resolution on DX11 maxed?

About those 580s... 3 screens, I see. Will they run desktop in that resolution? Yes. Will they run maxed Crysis in that resolution? I don't know. Let's wait for more input.

Yea that was my curiosity. In all honesty im not unreasonable, it doesn't have to be entirely maxed out. Currently my single 6970 can not do DX11 in that resolution.

WHAT? You already have a 6970? Then you don't need to switch to 580s, just get a second one... oh wait, you're tired of Eyefinity. Well, are you sure nVidia doesn't have same issues?

Also, what's the rest of your current specs? Maybe you don't even need an upgrade...

I know I don't NEED an upgrade... haha. I have a Phenom X6 1100T BE, 8gb G-Skill 1333 DDR3 in an ASUS Crosshair III Formula MB. From waht I have read the V-Sync issue is not a common issue on NVIDIA cards. It is possible it is just my Gigabyte card but they don't usually steer me wrong.

EDIT: They also no longer sell my particular card. I have heard mixed results with mixing and matching in XFIRE
