Question New Keyboard Problems

Hi,

Got my first mechanical keyboard from Amazon, the Keychron v6 Max, and I think I'll unfortunately have to return it. While I loved it, my wife (who has small hands and tendanitus issues) did not, and we figured out why. There are two issues she's experiencing:

  • Compared to our previous keyboard (which was just an old Dell SK-8135 keyboard) the V6 has a substantial bottom bezel that hurts my wife's wrists. On our old Keyboard, the space bar was right up against the edge as opposed to having a bezel.
  • She is finding that the keycaps are too small for her and she makes frequent mistakes. We measured the keys and with the rounded corners, the edges are about .2-.3 mm smaller at the top than our current keyboard.
Since we both use the desktop (myself for gaming + some work typing, and her primarily for typing) I'd like to figure out what we can do to get a nice keyboard but have it so she can type comfortably, without redoing our entire office (e.g. new chairs/desk is not really an option at the moment). Any suggestions on alternative solutions / alternative Keyboards to try?

Thanks!

Just try/test as many keyboards as possible whenever and wherever possible.

Stores, family, friends, public locations (e.g. library).

Short tests are different than long-term use so try keyboards for as long as possible.

Have a chat with her doctor: hopefully the doctor will be able to provide or direct her to someone who can help with respect to ergonomic options, therapies, etc..

For me, I found that a simple wrist rest to straighten hands, wrist, and arms helped great deal.

And if you like the v6 keyboard then keep it. There are ways to allow two keyboards to be used on one computer.

A reverse KVM switch of some sort.

Or use a USB extension cable to connect a wireless dongle to the host computer. Place the dongle end where convenient and simply swap (if necessary) the wireless dongles when switch keyboards. A USB hub may be workable as well.

Overall, start with her doctor and address the ergonomic options. There may be trade-offs and you do not want solving one problem to create another.

More than just the keyboard needs to be considered.
