Question New laptop, I'm concerned about the fans ?

I bought an MSI Katana AI Gaming Laptop the other day and it suits what I need perfectly, however, there's one issue which I've not come across before.

The fans on the laptop maybe once a day ramp up really loud on the logo splash screen and then as soon as it gets to Windows the fans drop right down, back to 0rpm.

I have the setting in MSI Center set to AI. It doesn't happen all the time as I mention, once a day - (I normally turn it on and off three or four times a day).

The fans go back to silent and I have no others issues. I don't really want to return the laptop if I don't have to as I've just spent a few days setting everything up.

It happened from first use and I've installed the latest BIOS and that made no difference.

MSI support made me do troubleshooting including an antivirus check, and uninstalling programmes from the C Drive that are unnecessary as well as check usage of CPU on task manager.

I’m not that techie but even I know that is a waste of time & by the time I get to Windows the loads are minimal and the fans are silent.

I’m a bit stuck as to what to do next guys, any personal experiences or advice would be awesome! Cheers.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Keep an eye on temps and see if you're having overheating issues. Use HWInfo, to help you monitor temps.

What sort of background apps are you running on your laptop? I wouldn't return the laptop if your temps are fine and if the laptop isn't thermal throttling, nor is it lagging on your tasks(that you tax the laptop with).

For the sake of relevance, which BIOS version are you on for your laptop?

Hey, cheers for the welcome and quick response man! 😊

No issue at all with temps that I can see, 35 / 40 degrees at idle which for a gaming laptop I see online is standard.

No thermal throttling, no lag. As soon as I get onto Windows the fans go back to 0rpm.

Laptop seems well up to the tasks I’ve thrown at it, but I will do a bit of gaming to check today.

I’m on the latest BIOS version, I installed it the other day and the issue has repeated once so far - E158NAMS.510.

Cheers!
