Lets get it started!...
I can't wait for winhead dispondents. Sucks to be second class, eh? I'll take my sleek sexy ergonomic macbook with light up apple logo over a cheap crudy plastic "glitzy for morons" windoze notebook anyday. Sorry you don't make enough to afford something good. Go shop at walmart you winmorons.

This is just amazing, Apple cuts prices by hundreds of dollars and somehow, they're still overpriced.

Calling what was previously the Macbook, a Macbook Pro seems silly to me. I mean, they all have remedial video solutions, but at least the pro's had dedicated cards for "serious" work. Lumping a laptop with solely integrated seems silly to me.

Lol, yeah, because people don't buy Macs because they're poor.

Last I checked, I couldn't get a Tri or Guad Crossfire/SLI setup from Apple, or even get a GTX 295. Just because you can get buy on remedial hardware doesn't mean everyone else can, or would even want to. I'd much rather spend ~2k on a machine that was gobble down anything I throw at for breakfast, rather than intergrated video, a 2Ghz processor, and a hunk of aluminum and shiny plastic.

For such a well engineered product, the price really isn't that bad - especially when you factor in the one thing commenters on this site always seem to forget - resale value. Macs hold their value a hell of a lot better than generic laptops, even broken ones command a premium.

Ha, many of us HAVE money because we didn't waste it on a Mac. And no, just because I dont own a Mac doesn't mean I can't. I have a friend who makes 1/3rd what I do, loves his new $3000 mac pro desktop and is complaining about money problems. Meanwhile, I built my own, with very similar specs, in a very sexy and sleek Antec Sonata Elite case and did it for 1/3rd the cost. Who's the chump now?

They hold resale value ... unless Apple reduces price by $1000 the following year.

dunno why you'd parrot the idea that a 'windoze notebook' is somehow different from your precious macbook since they use the same kind of hardware and can run the same software... they're PCs... if your comment wasn't such an obvious troll we could help you spend even more money, which you seem to like, with non-apple hardware that will blow the doors off apple hardware and still run your precious OSX... next!

Laptop price from Apple Inc. simply don't make sense.

The price of laptops is U-shaped depending on monitor size. The smaller, or the bigger, the more expensive it will be. The cheapest price point for laptops are 15.4". Due to overproduction of LCD panels, 16" and 17" price are coming down recently.

[citation][nom]Kill@dor[/nom]I don't have anything against Apple and Macbooks except...the PRICE!!![/citation]

Couldn't put it better myself, except that I do hate Apple Inc.

I'd be pretty impressed if you can build an octo core workstation class machine for $1000. Although I'm pissed off at Apple for raising their profit margins by $1000 on their Mac Pros, they're still comparatively priced to equivalent Dell workstations since Dell followed suit. For the first time though, the Mac Pros are actually more expensive which is a shame.

Can you tell me where to buy the Nehalem CPUs, workstation motherboard and ECC memory for $1000?

Additionally... "light up logo?" Seriously? That's a selling point? A white plastic covered cutout with a LED behind it is a selling point? If that doesn't scream I'm doing this because I want people to think I'm cool then I dont know what does.

Hey Chripuck, if you're running Windows on that cool Antec then you're the chump! Nothing wrong with PC other than Windows. Nothing wrong with Apple other than snobbery and price.

i guess your mom doesn't give you enough attention, so you troll on forums?

and I'm still in disbelief that they cut the prices by so much, and yet, everyone is okay with it! they are obviously still making a huge profit margin to be able to do this...

The processors there are $760 for the pair, cheapest motherboard looks to be $300, 6x1GB of DDR3 ECC RAM is $144. So that's $1204 already without everything else.

Sorry, equivalent Lenovos are built better (magnesium alloy vs aluminum), priced better (up to 60% cheaper), and it doesn't make you a snob or a complete jerk (priceless!).

chaohsiangchen, that's not an equivalently powerful machine though. The 1.86GHz processors are only dual core, not quad core, the memory with those chips can only run at 800 MT/s instead of 1066MT/s and the L3 cache is 4MB. There's also less RAM. An octo core Nehalem can't be built for much less than about $1500 and even then you'd worry about the quality of a $300 'workstation' class motherboard.

Maybe Windows marketing combined with the economy are finally putting some pressure on Apple. I don't knock those who like Apples, after having used a couple, they don't impress me anymore than a windows machine. Not enough games for Mac, can't build my own, can't update hardware easily, don't like Safari... If Apple can get the money they want for the pretty package with middle of the road hardware at high end prices good for them. It's an image product, social jewelry, snobbery, not for me.

Lol you fail to forget that at startig price the mac pro doesn't come with an octocore set up and it comes with the shitty gt120,and yet still costs more than 2500 dollars starting price....2500 dollars alone would get me an i7 extreme rig with the gtx 295 and multiple hard drives in RAID or even SSD and if you go and conifigure a work station on avadirect.com you will see that even the octocore is overpriced compared to similarly specced systems how can i walk into an apple store and in good conscience drop well over 2500 dollars for a single 2.6 ghz xeon and a gt120 knowing that i ca get a machine that will run circles around it for much less? you conveniently try to use dell as an example as if most of us on this site don't know where to actually find good prices and good performance nice try.

Windows 7 and it's running like a champ. Had one freeze up in 2 months, system ended the process seamlessly with not a single hiccup.

Oh yeah, and it actually plays any video game I want.
