Since the first day I built my computer, I've had problems that I'm fairly certain can be all traced back to my motherboard. Well it's time to finally get rid of it. Right now I have an amd build but I'd like to get an intel processor with this upgrade. It's been awhile since I've looked at computer parts so I have no idea what's good still.

Here is my current build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Tempers/saved/LpBKHx

I'd like to get maybe a higher end i5? Like I said, I don't know what's good anymore.
I just need a new motherboard and processor. Thanks all!

Your PC is a beast!!! It will outperform most of the i5s till date as they have four cores whereas this one has six, my friend six cores! What problems are you having with this build?

No it isn't....
It's worse than a G4560 in terms of performance.
More cores and higher clock speeds does not = more performance, read up on CPUs @Tarun17, especially IPC and architecture, the FX series processors were a massive failure.

@OP, what is your budget?

I didn't include a budget in the original post because I have no idea what the cost of a decent intel cpu is. I'd say around $200 would be ideal but I have a feeling I'll be spending more.

if your on a tight budget if you have good power supply and ddr3 ram go haswell cpu and mb. it be faster then the fx cpu. myself you have loced cpu and a b200 chipset and some ddr4 ram. or look at the amd zen cpu that are out. amd zen cpu due to newish cpu core a lot of game vendor have to patch there games.

Sorry I didnt look it up and sorry I sad that. But let's leave that.
As your budget is not too tight, you can buy :

i5 6400 for 182$

https://www.amazon.com/Intel-I5-6400-FC-LGA14C-Processor-BX80662I56400/dp/B010T6CG7E/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1492253547&sr=8-4&keywords=i5+7400

and

LGA 1151 DDR3L Motherboard :

https://www.amazon.com/LGA1151-Micro-Motherboards-B150M-PLUS-D3/dp/B016A459GO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492253615&sr=8-2&keywords=skylake+ddr3

BUT... the problem is that the motherboard uses ddr3l memory whereas you have DDR3 memory. So, if you have DDR3L memory, you are done with an i5 6400 that wont bottleneck your 970. And, if you dont have DDR3L, you can buy this motherboard and DDR4 Memory:

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Skylake-Motherboard-H110M-Pro-VD/dp/B017NIDYH2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492254120&sr=8-2&keywords=h110m

DDR4 Memory:

Are You mad? he has a 970. You are telling him to pair it with a g4560. ROTFL !!

And why do you have that profile picture?

1. Not mad, only providing the OP with the answer to his own Parameters as requested of 200$. he cannot slap an Intel CPU on a AMD board so he needs to replace all 3 components, DDR3 doesn't run on H110 or B250 boards as DDR4 is not 1.5v
1a. the G4560 is more powerful than the system he currently has, the B250 board will permit him in the future to upgrade to any 6th or 7th gen cpu he so wants to buy, and upgradability of memory later on as well, it is a MOST viable solution considering the limited budget at hand at this time.

2. did you slap your monitor for that bug ?

Hey! PALADIN, I know what you meant BUTTT... Why??? He anyways will have to buy DDR4 and a mobo so i think h should buy a cheap h110m mobo and i5 6400 man thats all i'm saying .

And,yes i slapped my Precious 768p monitor for that. (Dont laugh at me x-( .)

In comparison to my fx-6300, how well would the pentium do? Better or worse? I'd rather spend a little extra money right now than feel the need to upgrade again in the near future. Also, is there any board that's still viable with ddr3 compatibility? If I don't need to buy new ram, that would be great.

EDIT: I should also mention that I use this PC primarily for gaming and most of the games I play are graphic intensive.

Not cool dude, legit just pulled apart my laptop's screen to try and find the ant until I realised it was your screensaver, I know it's meant to be a joke, but someone who doesn't know what they're doing could spend unnecessary money or break stuff, dangerous to have that as a profile pic with no border....
Pls remove it.

Yes, he should remove it ;p

@ tarun17 you can put an I7-6700 (6th gen) on it, just the upgrade path is wider with a b250, as it will run an I7-6700 or I7-7770 (7th gen)
and the difference of price is 7 dollars... why would you want to limit yourself to 6th gen only for 7dollars?

As someone running a 6300 with a 970 currently & hitting 60fps 90% of the time & over 50fps the remaining 10% I'd ask you what problems you are actually having ??

I wouldn't honestly swap that setup out for a pentium g4560 , there are gains but insignificant ones IMO for a $200 outlay.

It won't work with 100 series boards made before the release of Kaby Lake, it just won't boot.
So you either have to get lucky and get a board made afterwards, or boot it with a Skylake chip first.
On top of that, H110 boards have crap quality components, a B250 board costs a bit more, has better features + more RAM slots as long as you get a decent one, and its guaranteed to work with your CPU.

OK, OK agreed, BUT

What problems are you exactly facing? maybe instead of fighting over the components, we may be ACTUALLY able to help you! :)
